The Championship – Top Goalscorer Betting Tips

The Championship is shaping up for another exciting campaign, with plenty of twists and turns and potentially lots of goals! But who will be scoring the majority of them? There may still be transfers in the pipeline, but we’ll assess the chances of some of the Championship’s striking hotshots.

Chris Wood – Leeds United – 40/1 Paddy Power

A thoroughly decent signing for Leeds United – that was the general consensus when the Kiwi signed for the Yorkshire club earlier this summer. If stability is found at Elland Road, Leeds could be in for a good season under Uwe Rosler. Many people believe the former Man City man could have saved Wigan from relegation had he been given the chance and there’s no doubt he possess decent managerial ability. With Billy Sharp heading across Yorkshire, it leaves Steve Morison, Soulyman Doukara and Chris Wood leading the line. Alex Mowatt, Tom Adeyemi, Lewis Cook and the potential addition of Stuart Dallas could all create chances for the striker and I think he could potentially be in double figures by November. He has backed himself to score goals at this level and we are too!

Nouah Dicko – Wolverhampton Wanderers – 25/1 Skybet

Wolves will have a good season. They impressed in their first season back at this level and scored a bag full of goals! They have lost Bakary Sako, who provided many of the assists and weighed in with a few himself, but they have gained Conor Coady and have a very strong looking first XI. Dicko has always scored goals at this level, it’s hard to believe Wigan let him go – how they needed him last season! There’s no doubt that he will be up there and with 4 places ¼ odds being paid, it’s definitely worth siding with the Malian. He scored 27 in 56 for the Black Country side and 5 in 5 for Rotherham prior to that. He has goals in him and he will be troubling the top end of the scoring charts once again.

Outsiders:

Freddie Sears – Ipswich – 66/1 Bet365

The former West Ham academy graduate is excelling under the tutelage of Mick McCarthy. Ipswich have a band of potent strikers this season with Daryl Murphy, David McGoldrick, Brett Pittman and Sears himself. He ended last season well and could continue where he left off. He has pace and the finish to match and is working his way back up after dropping down to League One level with Colchester. If he isn’t playing second fiddle to the aforementioned triumvirate of marksmen, he might be in with a chance.

Joe Mason – Cardiff – 66/1 Coral

Joe Mason seems to have been knocking around South Wales for many a season. But the striker is still only 24. He scored goals out on loan at Bolton and this season, he might finally get the chance he deserves for a run in the first team. He has scored 4 in 6 in pre-season and notched both goals against Watford in a friendly. Whilst these stats often mean very little, he is looking fit and sharp and many Cardiff City fans believe he and Joe Ralls could define their season. At the price, he might be worth a few quid.
