Derby v Brentford – Derby win

Its not been the best start to the season for Brentford. There was plenty to be optimistic about last year under Mark Warburton, but many people cannot understand the decision by chairman Matthew Benham to part ways with the affable boss. It's looking slightly foolish now and they are on the lookout for a new manager with less than 10 games gone. Lee Carsley took charge of Tuesday night's defeat to Birmingham and they face a tricky trip to the IPro on Saturday afternoon. Derby were one of the draw specialists (they shared the dubious title with Leeds) at the start of the season, but they've started to pick up points and their recent record on the road is admirable. There was also a first goal for Darren Bent and that can only breed confidence for Paul Clement and his side. They must surely have too much for the Beleagured Bees here.

GET 5/1 FOR CHELSEA TO BEAT SOUTHAMPTON

Sheffield Wednesday v Preston – Sheffield Wednesday to win

Sheffield Wednesday are in fine form at the moment, they've won their last 3 and put Premier League Newcastle United out of the cup. Ricardo Carvalhal has made them exceptionally dangerous to play against and they are still a fairly young team, so they will only improve the longer the season goes on. Preston have struggled to adapt to life in the Championship. There's no doubting that Simon Grayson is a decent manager, he is a League One specialist, but he has shown his limited capabilities when managing above that level. Preston are still without Joe Garner and also without key central defender Bailey Wright who was sent off during the 1-1 draw with Wolves last week. Paul Gallacher is back and that is a boost as is the recent addition of Adam Reach, but I think Sheffield Wednesday will narrowly win this. Preston have won just once this season and I can't see them doubling that here.

Rochdale v Bradford – Rochdale to win

Rochdale went off like a rocket in midweek, scoring 3 goals inside 20 mins. They eventually ran out 3-2 winners against Shrewsbury, but it was the lightning quick start that got them the 3 points. Keith Hill's side are always a good bet at Spotland. Teams don't enjoy playing there and they have a terrific record. If they could sort out their away form, they would be promotion contenders. Hill has done terrificly well with a team that features very few stars or household names. Ian Henderson and Peter Vincenti being the best known members of the squad. They face Bradford who have had 2 tough examinations on the road inside 7 days. Having lost to in-form Colchester, they face an uphill task from the beginning here. They have won just twice this season, one of them came here in the North West against Oldham, but the Latics aren't as good as Dale and it should be another 3 points for the home side.

Hartlepool v Luton – Luton to win

Luton have turned a corner. Having been one of the promotion favourites at the start of the season, John Still's men got off to a disappointing first few weeks before recently gathering momentum and 3 straight wins has propelled them into midtable. They won at the Globe Arena in midweek which is no mean feat. They have the household name in Craig Mackail Smith, but it seems the goals are being shared around and midfielder Jonathon Smith and the versatile Cameron McGeehan have shone in particular. They come up against Hartlepool who not only got battered at Victoria Park by Bristol Rover in midweek, they've also had impressive defender Carl Magnay banned for spitting at opposition fans. That is a blow for Ronnie Moore's young side and they won't want to face a confident Luton side. I think the Hertfordshire side should emerge with all 3 points.

Portsmouth v Yeovil – Portsmouth to win

An obvious one perhaps, but it's less about Portsmouth and more about the fact that Yeovil can't buy a win. They've been poor recently and Paul Sturrock has his work cut out if he is to avoid them slipping out he league and avoid 3 successive relegations. They're a young team, still learning, but they've got to start picking up results soon. They lost to Oxford at Huish Park at the weekend and they won't relish a visit to Fratton Park. Portsmouth have been far from vintage and were beaten by an unpredictable Exeter side in midweek, but they should have too much talent here. Backed by a huge crowd, they will want to secure 3 points and move towards the summit of the table once more.
