Whilst this competition can often be unpredictable due to sometimes questionable team selections, betting on goals is a great way to follow the live scores and the potential rewards are enticing. Read on for Graeme's selections and analysis…

Port Vale v Walsall (7.30pm KO)

In securing promotion from League Two last season Port Vale scored an impressive 87 goals, however it is worth noting they kept only 13 clean sheets. Walsall, who in finishing 9th League One last season surpassed many expectations, did also concede 57 goals. In three of the last four league meetings between these two sides both teams have scored.

Southend V Yeovil

Southend had one of the lowest number of clean sheets in League Two last season, and are at home to a Yeovil side that will no doubt be resting their best players after their surprise weekend victory at Millwall. The Glovers also conceded in 16 of their 23 away league matches last season.

Colchester v Peterborough

Peterborough’s attacking style of play often leaves them liable to concede, and indeed many of their Championship games last season saw both teams score including an incredible run of nine times in eleven matches. Colchester narrowly avoided relegation last season but did manage to score in 17 out of 23 home games.

Oldham v Derby

Derby are another Championship team who had a dire clean sheet record last season, conceding in 38 of their 46 championship games yet still finishing tenth. Oldham enjoyed a good run to keep them in League One under new boss Lee Johnson, scoring at least one goal in each of their last five home games. The Latics will be eager to cause an upset against the Rams.

Gillingham v Bristol City

Both these teams now play in League One after Bristol City’s relegation and Gills’ Promotion.  City had a dreadful defensive record in the Championship conceding 84 goals, but this season are one of the favourites for promotion back to the second tier. Five out of their last seven games have seen both teams to score with the same outcome looking entirely possible in this match.
