Racing Tips Newmarket: Cambridgeshire Betting Tips

One of the toughest betting heats of the whole year, the Betfred Cambridgeshire, takes place at Newmarket on Saturday and it looks as competitive as ever to find a racing betting tip for the cavalry charge down the Rowley Mile.

The winner of this race, with the exception of 2011 40/1 winner Prince of Johanne, is usually an upcoming progressive type and heading the betting is the Brian Ellison trained Top Notch Tonto. The northern raider has been wonderfully consistent and has won two of his last three races including a Group 3 at Haydock last time out.

This 3-year-old looks to be heading the right way and Coral go 14/1 for Ellison’s improver. Dale Swift is confirmed to ride and would be my idea of the winner.

Most of the leading contenders in the betting do have a similar profile to Top Notch Tonto and that can be applied to William Haggas’ horse, Graphic.

He has been in terrific form this season and won the Series Final of the London Mile at Kempton on his last run. First time cheekpieces were worn at the Surrey track and they seemed to help and he stayed on strongly to triumph.

Frankie Dettori takes the ride on the 14/1 shot having never ridden the horse before but that won’t diminish his chances of winning and has every chance of giving the charismatic Italian another big race victory.

Other horses who could be in the shake up on Saturday include last year’s winner Bronze Angel (20/1 William Hill). He was a very impressive winner of this race last year under William Buick before finishing a creditable fifth in the Group 3 Darley Stakes.

However, he hasn’t raced for 350 days and it would take a truly remarkable training performance from Marcus Tregoning to win this incredibly difficult race first time out.

Ascription (14/1 with Sky Bet) also has solid claims for up and coming trainer, Hugo Palmer. Palmer only sent out his first runners on the 12^th September but has a horse who is in good heart having dead-heated at Doncaster last time out. It would be an absolute fairytale were Palmer to win this historic prize and he has every chance with this former Ed Dunlop charge.
