On Sunday the 5-3 Packers host the 4-5 Philadelphia Eagles. The reason the Packers are favored by only one point at home is because starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone in last week’s game against the Chicago Bears. Now the Packers turn to back-up quarterback Seneca Wallace. Luckily for Wallace, the Philadelphia defense ranks 32^nd out of 32 teams in yards allowed per game, giving up an average of nearly 420 a game. Seneca Wallace is more than a capable back-up, as this is his 11^th year in the league. Starting Wide Receiver Jordie Nelson, speaking about Wallace at practice said “We trust Seneca. He has a proven track record. He’s been around the league long enough.”

 I think this line is an over adjustment from the original line of -9. Overall, the Packers are a much better team than the Eagles, and are still a strong 3-1 at home this season. I think it is unlikely that they would lose two consecutive home games at their beloved Lambeau Field. The Eagles 4 wins this year have come against teams who are a combined 8-25. They have not shown any signs of beating a good football team in the Packers class, especially on the road.

The truth of the matter is the Eagles themselves have a back-up quarterback starting in Nick Foles. Michael Vick was the #1 quarterback for Philly at the beginning of the season but has been sidelined due to injury himself which has pushed Foles into the starting job.  The perception is that Green Bay will be playing without Aaron Rodgers, but the reality is that both teams will be without their starting quarterbacks. This is also a tough situation for Philadelphia, playing their second consecutive road game after traveling to the west coast to play Oakland last Sunday.

The biggest reason I am betting Green Bay is the team mentality. When the franchise quarterback goes down, the rest of the team knows they must pick up the slack in order to win. I expect an inspired effort from the Packers on Sunday that will be enough to win against a mediocre Philadelphia Eagles squad.
