Joburg Open 2014 – Golf Betting tips & Predictions, after a successful week last week picking 40/1 winner Gallagher in Dubai, our man @gbenno79 is back with his golf betting tips and predictions; trying hard to pick back to back winners!

Joburg Open : Home Favourites To Prevail At The Joburg Open

Course : Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Course

East Course, 7,658 Yards, Par 72

West Course, 7,203 Yards, Par 71

The Joburg Open is played over two courses – East & West course

The East course is the longer, more established and harder course of the two on show this week. Measuring in at just over 7000 yards, length off the tee will be a key asset to consider when looking over your tournament picks.
It has hosted the South African Open and numerous other high profile events and is generally considered to be one of the finest tracks, if not the best in the nation.
The 10th and 11th holes are infamously known as “the two longest back to back par fours in the world" and measure at over 500 yards each.

The East course has no major water hazards, although the course is heavily tree lined so keeping the ball in the fairway is a must.  The greens here in South Africa should be much slower than the ones played over the last few weeks in the Middle East.

In comparison the West course is not as long, at over 300 yards shorter than the East, and has a par of 71 compared to the East Championship course par of 72.
The course is a much easier test, and scoring on the West course is usually much better than the East course.

Inside The Field : Charl Schwartzel, who will headline the larger than normal field this week back in his native South Africa and defending champion Richard Sterne, will both aim to claim their third Joburg Open titles and continue South Africa’s dominance of the event when they tee up at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club this week.

Last year Sterne romped to victory by seven shots from Schwartzel to record his second success in the €1.3million event, having first triumphed in 2008, when he beat Magnus A Carlsson and Garth Mulroy in a play-off.

Five of the seven editions of the Joburg Open have been won by South Africans, with Hansen and Ariel Canete – winner of the inaugural event in 2007 – the only ‘foreign’ players to have lifted the trophy.

Previous Winners

2013 – R. Sterne

2012 – B. Grace

2011 – C. Schwartzel

2010 – C. Schwartzel

2009 – A. Hansen

Tournament Records :

72 Hole Record : 260, Richard Sterne ( 2013 )

18 Hole Record : 61, Charl Schwartzel ( 2011 )

Selections :

After looking into the stats for the Joburg Open it is clear to see that the winner is usually a home favourite, South Africans have won this event five times out of seven with two multiple winners – Richard Sterne & hot favourite Charl Schwartzel.  Also look for players who are in form coming into the event.  Below are my selections to follow, I have left out the hot favourite as I see no value in Charl at 4/1 top price even thought he has huge claims.

George Coetzee 12/1  win – Winner Sports- Open a new Winner account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Pretoria based Coetzee is coming into this event in fine form, he has notched up 2 top ten finishes in recent weeks with a 4th place finish at the Abu Dhabi Championship and a 5th place finish at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.  Coetzee will have good vibes this week especially after his performance here last year when he came 3rd to runaway champion Richard Sterne.  He also finished in the top 10 here back in 2011.

Thomas Aiken 25/1 Each Way – Winner Sports- Open a new Winner account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Home favourite Thomas will be very confident back in his homeland and must be backed each way this week, he has been playing very consistently this year with two top 10 finishes to his name already, his best effort was at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters were he finished in 5th place.  Aiken also performs well here, last year he finished in 6th and back in 2011 he finished in 3rd place.  Thomas has seven Sunshine Tour victories so certainly knows how to get the job done on home soil.

Dawie Van Der Walt 40/1  Each Way – Ladbrokes – Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!

The power-house that is Van Der Walt must be on the short list at the Joburg Open as he has already won twice in South Africa in 2013.  Dawie has been in fine form over the last calendar year and I am sure he can keep this form up in 2014.  Recently he came 9th at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.  He also had good success here in 2012 when finishing third to the eventual winner, Branden Grace.

Steve Webster 40/1 Each Way-  Coral – Open a new Coral account by clicking this link bet just £5 and get a free £20 bet!

Englishman, Webster, has been performing really well over the last two weeks with two top-5 finishes so he must feel that a win is around the corner if he can keep up his current form. Possibly the only worry for him is that his last win was nearly seven years ago; this was when he won the Portugal Masters where he beat Robert Karlsson by two strokes.

Johan Carlsson 50/1 Each Way – William Hill – Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Johan is a young Swede who has potential to have a very fruitful career on the European Tour.  He only turned pro in 2011 after graduating from San Diego State University.  After missing the cut last week fellow punters need to write that off and give Johan another chance to show what he can do.  This season he has already racked up four top-20 finishes, most recently coming seventh at the Abu-Dhabi Golf Championship.  However, with only one professional win – which was on the Challenge Tour – he does lack experience.

Still no doubting the best sign up offer at the moment- Coral win that with the offer below-
