Volvo Golf Champions : Stick With Oosty For South African Glory

Course : Durban Country Club, 6,689 yards, Par 72.   Designed by George Waterman and Lawrie B Waters and Established in 1922, the Durban Country Club overlooks the Blue Lagoon estuary and the Indian Ocean.  The course is very short by modern standards, the Durban course has fairly tight landing areas on the fairways and ultra dwarf Mini Verde Bermuda greens.  Built on dunes, six holes (1, 2, 3, 4, 17 & 18) have extremely undulating fairways.

Most recently, RDCC hosted the South African Open in 2010, 2005, 2002 and 1998 and it's also been the venue for the Suncoast Classic on the Sunshine Tour since its inception in 2006. RDCC is  situated only 1 kilometre north of Durban's "golden mile" beachfront and in the heart of Durban's thriving sporting precinct – opposite the iconic Moses Mabhida stadium and ABSA Stadium.

Inside The Field :  There are 36 Members of The European Tour's leading golfers competing for a US$4million prize fund and a first prize of $700,000.  There are 18 nationalities represented on the entry list with South Africa boasting the highest number of players. Selections

With the Volvo Golf Champions tournament only in its fourth year on the European Tour,  there are not many clear stats to look out for in order to point you in the right direction of finding a winner, although one particular stat has been very clear since the event was moved to South African soil in 2012.  The last two events here at the Durban Country Club have been won by home favourites Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen.  The South Africans always have a marked advantage when they play on home turf and this certainly seems to be the case here.

Louis Oosthuizen       16/1  Win – Coral – Open a new Coral account by clicking this link and get a free £50 bet.

“ Oosty “ did not have a great 2013 by any means on the European Tour, but coming back to his homeland where he will defend the title he won twelve months ago here at Durban Country Club will surely spur the former British Open champion to make a mighty fist of keeping hold of Volvo Golf Champions trophy.  Louis only had 2 top ten finishes in 2013, his last a 5th place finish behind Brett Rumford at the Ballantine’s Championship which was held in South Korea.

Branden Grace         25/1 EW – Ladbrokes- Open a new Ladbrokes account by clicking this link, and get a £50 free bet!

Although this tournament is for winners on the European Tour in 2013, Branden didn’t actually win in 2013, but he has been invited back due to his win at Durban Country Club back in 2012. Even though Branden hasn’t won for a while, he certainly still has been getting in the mix at the weekends of tournaments, notching up six top 10 finishes in 2013, his best effort finishing loser in a play off to Phil Mickelson – British Open Champion – at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

Thomas Aiken         80/1  EW – William Hill- Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

Thomas is starting to perform much better on the European Tour, over the past two seasons he has accumulated 2 wins; one in Spain and one in India back in 2013.  Aiken has had three top 10 finishes in 2013, his last top 10 finish was at the Volvo World Matchplay Tournament held in May 2013.  Thomas seems too big a price at 80/1 considering the South African has won  seven times on the Sunshine Tour in his native country.
