Golf Betting Tips & Preview- The CIMB Classic 2013

Here are our golf betting tips for the CIMB Classic 2013, the field is headed by our very own Open Champion, big Phil Mickelson, and an extremely strong field has assembled in Kuala Lumpur.

CIMB Classic : Phil to Thrill in Malaysia

Venue :  Kuala Lumpur G&CC (West), 6,951 yards, par 72. Located just five miles from the city’s heart, the original 1991 Nelson & Haworth design was given a redesign in 2008 by Ted and Geoff Parslow. This course has held some top level tournaments, staging the European Tour’s Malaysian Open in 2006 and again in each of the past four years.  The CIMB Classic is a tournament co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour.   This is the first event ever sanctioned by the PGA Tour in Southeast Asia.

Last Three Winners

2012 – N.Watney

2011 – B.Van Pelt

2010 – B.Crane

Inside The Field : 78 Players will compete to be crowned the CIMB Classic Champion in this quality field. There are 46 PGA Tour winners and 7 Major winners including British Open Champion Phil Mickelson who will be making his first start in Malaysia, and defending champion Nick Watney who will headline the small but strong field . Thirteen of the 78 players here finished among the top 30 in last season’s FedEx Cup race.

72 HOLE RECORD :  261, BO VAN PELT (2011 at The Mines Resort & GC)

18 HOLE RECORD :  61, NICK WATNEY ( 2012 at The Mines Resort & GC)

This tournament is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour, but the three times this tournament has been staged, an American has prevailed.  Again, as last week, 2013 form seems to be relevant when finding the winner of this unique competition. I have mainly concentrated on American players but there are a few players such as Graham DeLaet and Brendon de Jonge who fit the bill but haven’t quite made my ‘top 4’.

Phil Mickelson – Win 9/1- Coral- Open a new Coral account by clicking this link and get a free £50 bet.

‘Lefty’ has already won 3 times in 2013, twice in Great Britain and once on the PGA Tour at the Phoenix Open. This will be Phil Mickelson’s first event of the 2013/2014 season and he will see this as a perfect opportunity to win for the 4th time this year.  Phil has also finished runner-up twice, most notably when beaten by Justin Rose in the U.S. Open, which really hurt the 5-time Major winner.  Past near-misses seem to have galvanised Phil’s game, spurring him on to win in subsequent tournaments.

Sergio Garcia – Win 14/1- William Hill- Open a new William Hill account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

El Niño has 8 PGA Tour event wins to his name so far and I expect him to go close this week. Sergio returned to form at the Deutsche Bank in the second FedEx Cup playoff event to be staged this season when coming 4th.  Garcia has played well in 2013; accumulating six top 10 finishes without converting. Sergio has won 3 times on the Asian Tour, most notably winning only last year in Malaysia at the Iskandar Johor Open, so is comfortable playing in this part of the world.

Billy Horschel – EW 40/1- Winner SPORTS- Open a new Winner account by clicking this link and get a free £25 bet.

The Florida born Billy, has had a great 2013 so far and hopefully has more success to come.  The passionate Horschel, claimed his first victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans back in April and was also in contention with Phil Mickelson at the U.S. Open, eventually won by Justin Rose, back in June.  Horschel has amassed ten top-20 finishes in his burgeoning career, although his short fuse may cost him tournaments in the future.

Jimmy Walker – EW 30/1- SportingBet- Open a new Sporting Bet account by clicking this link and get a ‘Risk Free’ £50 bet.

Jimmy has started the 2013/2014 season in fine form, winning his first ever event on the PGA Tour, the Open, then following that up last week finishing just outside the top 10, in the Shriners for Hospitals Tournament in Las Vegas.  I am hopeful that the win just 2 weeks ago will make Jimmy a more confident golfer and spur him on to battle it out with the big boys in the future.
