This weekend welcomes back Premier League football with some mouth-watering ties to look forward to. The top fixture that seems be on everyone’s tongue is the long running Merseyside derby between high flying Liverpool and also just as good, Everton.

Liverpool came into this season spending money to sure up the depth of their squad throughout the summer with such additions including Kolo Toure, Aly Cissokkho, Mamadou Sakho, Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto. The defenders that have arrived have especially helped Liverpool’s cause to success this season with many clean sheets and Liverpool now look a team who could challenge for the league with a great squad. Currently they see themselves 2^nd in the league, 2 points behind Arsenal. They are in great shape to deliver a challenge to the likes of Man City and Chelsea, especially if they can keep up their run of good form.

The key to Liverpool’s season is obviously the most talked about strike partnership in the Premier League with Suarez and Sturridge firing on all cylinders. The pair have contributed to over 80% of the teams goals this season and don’t look like stopping. With Suarez suspended for the first 5 games of the season, it was up to Sturridge to create for Liverpool and that he did, with 4 in 4 for the England hitman. Since Suarez has been back in the fold, he has contributed to most Liverpool goals, scoring 8 goals in the 6 games he has played. Will Distin and Jagielka be able to handle the fire of these two goal scoring machines?

Everton have also been in great form this season with new manager Roberto Martinez especially impressing with some important signings and new style of play for the blues. Everton now seem more controlled on the ball, with patience now being a factor. The loss of Fellaini was thought to be a big loss to the side, but actually hasn’t impacted them at all much which is great for Martinez’s men. They currently see themselves in 6^th spot, 5 points adrift of Arsenal. Like most seasons, Everton always challenge for a possible place in the Champions League, but fall short. This season on the other hand has been so open and I think they have a great chance of a spot. If Lukaku stays fit, there is no reason to doubt their ability to challenge amongst the best teams in the league.

This game will be a cracker! I can imagine challenges will be flying in, a few tempers flowing and plenty of goals between both teams, but I see Liverpool coming away with a narrow win in a tight affair, 3-2, 2-1 being the score line.
