Napoli v Club Brugge – Napoli win

It's fair to say Club Brugge are having a mixed season in the Belgian Juliper League. After crashing out of the Champions League qualifying to Man Utd, they beat Standard Liege 7-1 before going on to lose 2-1 last Friday night to Mouscron Peruwelz. They've also gone down 2-1 to Waregem, meaning they've lost 4 of the last 5, which can't breed confidence. Whilst they aren't undertaking the biggests of journies, they should find the visit to Italy difficult. Napoli haven't been the force of old, they've picked up just 2 points from their opening 3 games, but they have been scoring goals with their last two matches ending 2-2. They may score one too many for the Belgians

 

Viktoria Plzen v Dinamo Minsk – Plzen win

Viktoria Plzen made it through their only previous encounter with the Europa Group Stages in 2011/12 and they start against Dinamo Minsk. Minsk haven't been consistent in their domestic league and travelling 1.100 KM to Plzen won't help their cause. Plzen have won their last 4 games and drawn the 2 previously and have scored plenty of goals along the way. I think the journey will take it out of the visitors who haven't been good enough on the road. They drew 0-0 at the weekend and lost to Salzburg on their last trip away in this competition. 

 

St Etienne v Rosenborg – St Etienne win

You have to go all the way back to 2008 to find the last times these sides met and it was the French side who came out on top. This was their only meeting to date and it ended 3-0. Rosenborg have traditionally struggled against Ligue 1 opponents winning just 1 of 7 encounters with them. They have been playing well the Norweigan side, but there are signs there run of form is coming to an end and I think they will struggle here. The French side are a more established force in this competition and I think their experience will count. 

 

FC Groningen v Marseille – FC Groningen Draw No Bet

Another French side, but this time I'm backing against them. Both these sides are as bad as each other when it comes to European competitions. Marseille are without a win in 10 attempts, losing 9 times whilst Groningen haven't won any of their last 4 games in European competitions although they've never played in the Europa League before. Marseille are poor on the road having lost both of their away games so far to Reims and Guingamp, both average Ligue 1 sides. Groningen won 3-1 at home at the weekend and although they lost the Super Cup on home soil to PSV, they've been unbeaten since at this ground, winning 2 of them. They're worth a chance at a bigger price.
