Royal Ascot Betting Tips – 3.45pm Prince Of Wales’s Stakes

Horse racing betting tips for the 3.45pm Prince Of Wales’s Stakes on Day 2 at Royal Ascot.

The Prince Of Wales’s Stakes is a fantastic Group 1 race over 1m2f which has been won by some fantastic horses in the past including Ouija Board, Fantastic Light and So You Think.  Last year’s contest was claimed by Roger Charlton’s Al Kazeem and eight runners line-up attempting to emulate his success.

Prix De l’Arc De Triomphe heroin TREVE (4/6 Betfred) was the stand-out three-year-old last season, winning two fillies Group 1’s before bolting home in the Arc impressively to win by an astonishing five lengths.  Despite loosing her unbeaten record on her seasonal reappearance in April, when she and Cirrus Des Aigles battled to the line in a thrilling contest, her form stands out clearly in this contest.  Cirrus Des Aigles is a six time Group One winner who went on to land the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom.  Jockey Frankie Dettori seems very bullish about her chances as is much of the racing world.  She has everything needed to excel; class, speed and a wicked turn of foot and, with conditions to suit, she will take all the beating.

Magician (5/1 Coral) claimed success in last season’s Irish 2,000 Guineas impressively however he has looked poor so far this season.  Aidan O’Brien’s four year-old won at the Curragh in May however it was a workman-like performance to beat Parish Hall.  He was then defeated by Noble Mission in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and never threatened that day.  Futhermore, Magician’s Ascot form is questionable – he finished last of the field in the 2013 renewal of the St James’s Palace.

Mukrhadram (7/1 SkyBet) finished runner-up in this race last season and performed creditably in a number of races.  This William Haggas five-year-old put in his best performance to date in March when finishing second in the Dubai World Cup.  He goes well fresh and has proven himself at the track, finishing second in this race and then fifth in the Champion Stakes in October.  His form is solid here having only finished out of the top three twice in his career – they were both at the back-end of the season so excuses can be given.  His price could offer a little each-way value

Dank (12/1 bet365) finished well ahead of The Fugue in Meydan earlier this year.  She finished last season very well, winning a Group 2 in Ireland before going on to win at the Breeders Cup.  Sir Michael Stoute’s filly looks progressive and she goes well fresh, having won both of her starts first time out.  If she is able to rediscover her Breeders Cup form she has an each-way shout, however this is her toughest contest to date and I don’t believe she’ll be ready for the step-up just yet.

The Fugue (8/1 Ladbrokes) is another classy filly who’s performances in the Yorkshire Oaks and the Nassau Stakes suggest that John Gosden’s five year-old could go close here, however past performances where she has just been piped on the line have been frustrating for favourite backers and it makes me wonder whether she has the determination to win.  Last year she finished third in this race to Al Kazeem, who was 11 lengths behind Treve in the Arc – that form suggests that The Fugue could struggle here.

Again, no prizes for originality, but TREVE looks to be the banker of the meeting.  She is the highest rated horse in the field and her form against both Cirrus Des Aigles and The Fugue (via Al Kazeem) suggests she should take all the beating and more.
