Manchester City v Sunderland Betting Tips and Predictions

The first set of silverware is up for grabs on Sunday as Manchester City and Sunderland fight it out at Wembley for the chance to take home the Capital One Cup. The match is live on Sky Sports, we have some free betting tips for you, it would be rude not to have a wager.

As Manchester City cruised to a frankly embarrassing 9-0 aggregate win over West Ham, the scene seemed set for Manchester United to overturn a small deficit at Old Trafford and set up a derby in the final. However, Gus Poyet's Sunderland had other ideas and after an absolute omnishambles of a penalty shootout, the Black Cats booked their place in the final at United's expense.

Although their early form under Poyet's was promising, Sunderland have slumped to back to back defeats in the league. The calamitous Wes Brown saw his third red card of the season in the forth minute against Hull, a match in which they went down 2-0. They were then put to the sword by Arsenal at The Emirates last weekend in a 4-1 defeat. Both games saw goals in the first fifteen minutes, if that happens against Manchester City then they are going to lose on Sunday.

Nevertheless, the form of Manuel Pellegrini's men has not been great so there will be some cause for optimism. A home defeat at the hands of Barcelona sees them face an uphill task for Champions League progression, and dropped points in the league against Chelsea and Norwich have seen them fall back to third in the race for the title. Perhaps the most alarming statistic is that their lack of goals though, with both Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo drawing blanks in their last five matches. However, a certain Argentinian returned to training on Tuesday and is likely to be involved this weekend. With 26 goals in all competitions this year, Sergio Aguero may just be the man to get things back on track. Despite being an unlikely starter, thus negating any appeal in the first scorer market, there is a definite window of opportunity elsewhere. Best priced at 3/1 with Bet365, back him to be the last goalscorer.

Similarly to the FA Cup final last year, the game features two teams from both ends of the Premier League spectrum. With Sunderland hoping to replicate what Wigan did and snatch an unlikely win over their high flying opponents. They are available at 9/2 to life the trophy and a huge 19/2 to win in 90 minutes. I love a cup upset as much as the next guy, but I just can't see it happening this time. With odds of a mere 3/10 tabled on a City win though, it's only worth inclusion on an accumulator, leading us to approach from a different angle. Sunderland will attempt to contain and frustrate, hopefully pinching a goal in the process. A lot will depend on how fast City start, if it was three months ago I would say back them to be winning at half time and full time. However, given their recent form, draw/City is where I see it going. Back this at 7/2 with William Hill.

Finally, with the most red cards in the Premier League this season, Sunderland are at least top of one table. Also top of a table is Martin Atkinson, characterised in this case, by the one for awarding the most penalties. Seeings as both frequently go hand in hand, back two separate singles of a red card and a penalty to be awarded in the match, respectively priced at 7/2 and 11/4 with William Hill.
