Manchester City will be looking to bounce back from their opening round defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday but their task will not be an easy one, as they come up against a Roma side who are flying high in Serie A and trounced CSKA Moscow 5-1, to top the group, in their opening Champions League game. Man City are favourites at 7/10, the draw is 3/1 and Roma are available at a tempting 9/2.

This game will probably be far more open than City’s encounter with Bayern where they had to soak up large amounts of pressure, they will be looking to take the game to the Italian side and that should make it all the more entertaining. If City lose this game they will find it very difficult to get themselves out of what is a very tough group.

City seem to found their goal scoring boots in the last week, scoring 4 against Hull and 7 in the League Cup, albeit against Sheffield Wednesday. Roma will certainly provide a sterner test than that as they have conceded just one goal so far this season in Serie A. Roma have had a perfect start to the season, winning all 5 of their games and won’t be the push overs that the odds suggest, they are easily the side that will come closest to challenging Juventus for the title.

Martin Demichelis should return to replace Mangala, following his torrid display against Hull. Dzeko could continue to partner Aguero up front as Jovetic is still missing through injury and the pair linked up well at the weekend. The biggest decision facing Pellegrini will be whether to start Joe Hart or Willy Caballero in goal, the latter featuring most recently.

This game is much tougher to call than the odds suggest I think, Roma have started the season in fine form and will be full of confidence ahead of this game and City have so much talent in their team it’s always hard to look past them. The odds on Roma to win are tempting, especially given how City have struggled in the Champions League in the past, but I think City will  be able to do enough to hold them to a draw and it is nicely priced at 14/5 with William Hill.

Despite Roma’s defensive prowess City have plenty of attacking flair players and should score a few, City’s problem has been at the other end and they have been a bit leaky and looked error prone at the back so far this season, Roma certainly have the talent to punish any mistakes as their performance against CSKA Moscow shows, get on both teams to score at 8/11 with Ladbrokes.

As I mentioned both these sides have bags of attacking talent and could easily score a couple of goals each, for that reason I reckon there’ll be over 2.5 goals and it is available at 7/10 with Bet365.
