Mourinho’s men opened their European campaign with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Schalke and now travel to take on Sporting Lisbon to get a win.

It has been hard to miss how good Chelsea’s form has been in general so far this season. In eight games in all competitions so far this season it is 6 wins and two draws for the blues and it will take a lot to stop them pulling away from the chasing pack in the early stages of the Premier League title race. Their 3 away games have seen them beat Burnley 3-1, Everton 6-3 and draw 1-1 with Man City so goals look on the cards for this one.

Sporting Lisbon return to the Champions League after a 5 year absence and started with a 1-1 draw away to Maribor. 6 games in to their new league season they are unbeaten but have drawn four of their 6 games and 5 out of 7 in all competitions. Chelsea are a big step up in terms of caliber of opponent so it will be interesting to see how they fare in this one.

Looking at the odds for this game, Chelsea are big favourites at 7/10 with Bet365 while the draw is 13/5 and a Sporting win is 4/1. Chelsea aren’t quite a good enough price to back outright but I do expect them to record a win here. They may choose to rest Diego Costa again making them less of a threat but with Loic Remy available to step in there are certainly goals to be add from them.

In the group stages last year, Chelsea managed 4-0 and 3-0 victories in their first two Champions League away games and after they only drew their first game a big win should be expected here. As I already mentioned there have been a lot of goals in Chelsea’s away games so far this season. They have goals and creativity throughout the side and could score a few but are less secure at the back than they once were. For my money, Evens is far too big on over 2.5 goals in this one. Last year they opened their Champions League campaign by losing at home to Basel but bounced back magnificently beating Steaua 4-0, I expect a similar reaction here so Evens on Over 2.5 goals is my second bet.
