Glorious Goodwood Betting Tips: Friday 31st July 2015

2.00 – Betfred Glorious Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 1m4f CH4

13/13 – Returned 9/1 or shorter in the betting
11/13 – Winners by 1 ½ lengths or less
10/13 – Had 3 or more runs already that season
9/13 – Had won over at least 1m4f before
8/13 – Aged 4 years-old
8/13 – Had won at Listed or better class before
8/13 – Had run at Goodwood before (4 won)
7/13 – Placed favourites
7/13 – Unplaced last time out
6/13 – Ran at Ascot last time out
6/13 – Winning favourites
4/13 – Were won by either a head or neck
4/13 – Trained by Luca Cumani
3/13 – Ridden by Kieren Fallon
3/13- Winning favourites
2/13 – Trained by Mark Johnston
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 9/2

VERDICT: The Corsican is the highest-rated runner in the field, plus being a past course winner then that’s another big plus – will be popular. However, the Luca Cumani yard are in decent order at the moment and they’ve actually won this race three times since 2007. With that in mind their CONNECTICUT (Bet at 3/1 with William Hill) is the call. A good winner last time out at Pontefract, albeit in just a 4 runner race, but that was Listed class and he came home by an impressive 16 lengths. Yes, more is needed up to Group Three company but the yard are going great guns at the moment and this is clearly a race they love to target.

BET NOW – CONNECTICUT

2.35 – Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) (CLASS 1) (3yo) CH4 Good 1m

12/13 – Had won over 7f or 1m before
11/13 – Had 2 or more previous runs that season
10/13 – Had not won a Group 3 or better before
9/13 – Had won at least twice during their career
9/13 – Returned 6/1 or shorter in the betting
9/13 – Placed in the top 3 last time out
7/13 – Ran at either Newbury (2), Goodwood (2) or Newmarket (3) last time out
4/13 – Had run at Goodwood before
4/13 – Won last time out
3/13 – Winning favourites
3/13 – Trained by Richard Hannon
3/13 – Ridden by Richard Hughes
3/13 – Winning favourites
2/13 – Ridden by Ryan Moore
2/13 – Trained by Brian Meehan
2/13 – Trained by Mark Johnston
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 7/1

VERDICT: A good race for the Hannon’s in recent times with wins in 2005, 2012 and 2013 so their Kool Kompany, with Richard Hughes riding is sure to attract support, plus they also run the Frankie-ridden Moheet. Sir Michael Stoute’s Convey is unbeaten after a win on the AW back in October and so could be anything pitched into this grade. However, Mick Channon could have the answer here with his MALABAR (Bet at 10/1 with Bet365). His 3 year-old filly gets weight from most of these, but this rates a big drop in class for her having run well in some Group One races recently. She’s also a past course winner so we know she handles the course, while jockey, Silvestre De Sousa, is a further plus in the saddle.

BET NOW – MALABAR (e/w)

3.10 – Betfred Mile (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 1m CH4

13/13 – Aged 6 or younger
12/13 – Had won over at least 1m before
12/13 – Had raced 3 or more times that season
10/13 – Had won 3 or more races during their career
10/13 – Carried 8-13 or less
9/13 – Never raced at Goodwood before
8/13 –Priced 7/1 or shorter
8/13 – Aged  4 or 5 years-old
6/13 – Finished 1st or 2nd last time out
6/13 – Unplaced favourites
4/13 – Ran at Newmarket last time out
3/13 – Winning favourites
3/13 – Won their last race
3/13 – Trained by Mark Johnston
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 10/1
8 of the last 10 winners were drawn 8 or lower
8 of the last 10 runnings saw the first two both drawn in 11 or lower

VERDICT: Some big stats here with 10 of the last 13 winners carrying 8-13 or less, while ALL of the last 13 winners were aged 6 or younger. If those two key stats are to be repeated then only one of the 22 runners fits the bill –  DONNCHA (Bet at 11/1 with Betfred). Donncha was good third at Ascot last weekend in the International Stakes and is another that gets in here off the same mark. The step up to a mile will suit and Andrea Atzeni takes over in the saddle, who has won on the horse three times.

BET NOW – DONNCHA (e/w)

3.45 – Qatar King George Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 5f CH4

13/13 – Returned 10/1 or shorter in the betting

10/13 – Had 3 or more runs already that season
10/13 – Had won 4 or more times in their careers
8/13 – Aged 4, 5 or 6 years-old
9/13 – Ran at York, Ascot or Newmarket last time out
8/13 – Placed favourites
6/13 – Had only won at Listed Class before
5/13 – Had run at Goodwood before
4/13 – Winning favourites
2/13 – Ridden by Ryan Moore
Take Cover won the race 12 months ago
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 13/2

VERDICT: Take Cover won this race 12 months ago and Moviesta did the business in 2013, so both are respected. Cotai Glory was a decent third last time out at York and being another CD winner here should be involved. MUTHMIR (Bet here at 6/1 with 888Sport) has to give weight away all-round being a Group Two winner, so that won’t be easy, but on a plus the return to 5f will suit so he’s the pick here. Paul Hanagan rides this William Haggas-trained sprinter but he’ll find this a bit easier than the Group One races he’s been running in of late and should be in the mix. Of the rest, David O’Meara’s Move In Time has been in cracking form since last summer and returned to the track after a break with anther win last month – he should he involved.

BET NOW – MUTHMIR
