We start with Group C favorites Colombia who take on Greece. The Colombians come in to this match unbeaten in their last seven games and even without injured star man Falcao their attacking line-up makes them a force to be reckoned with.

Greece come in to this suffering just one defeat in their last twelve matches but have drawn three of their last five. Greece’s main issue has always been and remains scoring goals – scoring just 1 goal in their last 4 matches.

Greece’s World record over the years is abysmal – played 6, lost 5 won 1 and scoring just two goals in the process. They take on a Colombia side who have plenty of quality so it is a Colombia win for me. They are top 9/5 with Betfred to win to nil and this seems a smart bet with Greece’s lack of goals considered.

Uruguay v Costa Rica 8PM GMT

Next up is the other match from England’s group as Uruguay hope to get their campaign underway against minnows Costa Rica. Uruguay come in to this on a six match unbeaten run including a 3-2 win against Argentina in Qualifying.

Costa Rica have won just one of their previous 6 matches losing to the likes of Australia, Korea and Japan + being beaten 4-0 by Chile. They are generally considered one of the weakest sides at this year’s World Cup so this a real baptism of fire.

England v Italy 11PM GMT

Finally, the big one – England open their World Cup campaign against Italy and will want a good start. Roy’s men far from impressed in their recent friendlies though only managing draws against Ecuador and Honduras. There isn’t much pressure on England but they will still want to do well here.

Italy though don’t come in to this match in the finest form ever though. Six of their last seven internationals have ended in draws with the other a defeat. This isn’t the finest generation of Italian players ever but they should still present problems for England.

With Uruguay also to contend with I feel neither side will want to drop points here and with Italy drawing so many of late this could be a hard habit to break, back the draw at 2/1 with Bet365.
