3.30pm Ludlow – Broxbourne 8/15

Things really haven’t worked out as expected for this six year old who was pretty classy on the flat (reached a rating of 94), and the world over hurdles looked to be his when he won first time out for Nicky Henderson at Fakenham – yet he hasn’t won since. A third to Carrigmoorna Rock at Newbury was nothing to be ashamed of but his sixth at Sandown was below par (yes he lost a shoe but was never really travelling), and he has it all to prove today. That said, this is a comparatively easy race to be honest and if he doesn’t win this then connections will be more than a touch upset – he ought to start our day with a winner granted a clear round.

4.30pm Ludlow – Bombadero 7/4

This is risky and I know it – but what can you do? Trained by Dr Richard Newland, the now eight year old was off the track from October 2013 after winning at Ffos Las until his return at Stratford five days ago when he ran a blinder to finish second to Oyster Shell when unsurprisingly one paced inside the final furlong. The bounce factor is a massive issue here as so many horses who run well after a lay off then run a stinker next time out but they are aware the handicapper has put him up six pounds for future races and feel the need to strike while the iron is hot.

3.50pm Taunton – Earthmoves 5/4

Paul Nicholls is ticking away nicely in the background as he does so well with winner after winner and this five year old added to that tally at Newton Abbot last time out. He absolutely hacked up that day and runs this afternoon with a seven pound penalty which seems unlikely to be enough to stop him – though if the ground gets any quicker I would get concerned?
