Horse racing value tips for Wednesday Day 1 of the St. Leger meeting at Doncaster.

It's the first day of the St. Leger Festival at Doncaster and, as we build up to the final classic of the season, we have plenty of high class racing to look forward to.

2.30 Doncaster

We have a solid two-year-old race here and I think that GROWL (6/1 Ladbrokes) should find himself back in the winner's enclosure. He was massively impressive when winning on debut in a good contest at Ascot, however flopped at York next time out. That was his first effort in Group company and he can be excused his effort as he ran green in the early stages of the race. This step down in Class should be a massive boost and he should be able to get back to winning ways and boost his confidence before future endeavours.

Angelic Lord looks to be the main danger, as the colt hasn't finished far behind both The Wow Signal and Ivawood on his last two starts. If Tom Dascombe's colt is able to reproduce the form shown on those starts he may well offer the greatest challenge to the selection.

3.00 Doncaster

The feature race of the day is the Scarbrough Stakes, a Listed contest run over five furlongs. The veteran KINGSGATE NATIVE (8/1 bet365) returns to action once again, in a season where he has been frustrating overall. Despite struggling early on on his latest start at Beverley, he stayed on extremely well to finish just a length behind in fourth. The nine-year-old is well overdue a win considering the form he has shown in the past and his efforts this year, and I think the both the flat track and the ground with slight give in it will help his cause.

Reckless Abandon made his return to the track last month after a long absence and put a very eye-catching performance at Newmarket. If he can rekindle his previous best career form, he will definitely be in the mix and should not be underestimated.
