It's Liverpool's 4th game inside 11 days as the mid-season hectic schedule shows no signs of slowing down on Merseyside. The Reds have had a good sequence of results though, from thumping Manchester City 4-1 to securing their passage to the next round of the Europa League by beating Bordeaux 2-1. It's been less frantic for Southampton, they've just had the normal weekend matches before this, but will have exerted a lot of energy in trying to stop Manchester City, but eventually coming unstuck. These two sides met in the Premier League in one of Jurgen Klopp's first games in charge and it was a game that sparked into life late on with both goals after the 80th minute and the points being shared.

Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson have only recently returned from injury and they look set for a place on the bench. That will be music to the ears of Ronald Koeman who will be delighted such an influential player will not face his side. There is likely to a place for the returning Adam Lallana in the side however. 

Jose Fonte is ruled out for Southampton and the emphasis will be Virgil Van Dijk to keep the Reds attack out. 

Southampton have scored more goals at home this season whilst Liverpool have generally fared better on the road, so it could be an interesting match-up and one that could once again see both sides finding the net.
