Saturday’s Best Racing Bets

Following on from a disappointing weekend, I’ve picked out two horses to get me back on track and firing in those winners!

Nothing went according to plan last weekend but that happens in this game and we need to take the rough with the smooth as both my selections got beaten despite heavy market support.

This weekend we have a long list of quality races and high class fields.  I have decided to swerve any of the terrestrial televised races in favour of a pair of less obvious bets.  Not every tip has to be at the biggest meeting (televised or not) and my first suggestion runs at Bangor-On-Dee.  The unbeaten hurdler and point to point winner Swatow Typhoon (5/2 Coral) will look to add a novice chase to his CV at the first attempt in the Class 3 Ginger McCain Memorial Novices Chase at 12.30pm.  Trained by the in-form Donald McCain, he is reported to have schooled as well as any of Mr McCain’s staying chasers at this early stage of his new career.  On paper he faces a strong challenger in the form of Mendip Express but preference is for Swatow Typhoon as a big run is expected.

The finale of the Hennessy Meeting at Newbury looks to be full of good quality competitive races, and I’m looking forward to see Vicky De L’Oasis (5/4 Ladbrokes) take her chance in the 12.20pm Novices Hurdle.  Trained in Ireland by Willie Mullins, she has won both her starts over hurdles since being brought over from France, and could potentially be a nice sort.  Although she impressed when winning over 2m 4f last time out, the drop back in trip shouldn't pose too much of a problem and she should be able to double up here.  As per usual the yard is in excellent form, and the fact that she has been thrown into Listed company emphasises the regard in which she’s held in at home.
