Royal Ascot Day 1: Ante-Post Treble
Royal Ascot kicks off with some strongly fancied favourites and punters will be hoping to gain some early success to set them up for the rest of the meeting.

For many people this whole day, maybe the meeting, could hinge on Animal Kingdom. I don’t see him getting turned over at a short price and I’d rather be a backer than a layer. In a similar way I’d rather back Magician than lay him. Reckless Abandon would be a dream start to the meeting with the 3 of them paying out at 29/1 with Sky Bet at current prices. (Further analysis on these selections can be read on individual race previews on the site)
After the trio of Group 1’s, we have the Coventry Stakes which is a 6 furlong sprint for 2 year olds so it is sure to harbour much talent for the future as evidenced by last year’s winner – Dawn Approach. The penultimate race of the opening day will be a stayer’s race, The Ascot Stakes. This is a handicap race and will be probably be the hardest race to pick a winner from. This could be a placepot buster for the tote players! Finally, to finish the day we have a dash over 5 furlongs which is the Windsor Castle stakes and this is a Listed race. When betting and fields are finalised for these latter races, I will come up with some previews and hopefully pick out some likely contenders!
