Horse racing betting tips for the best bets on Thursday Day 3 of Royal Ascot.

The main focus of the third day of the Royal Ascot meeting is the Ascot Gold Cup and this year’s renewal looks a high class event.  The race-card is bolstered by a number of Group contests which includes the Ribblesdale Stakes for fillies over 1m4f.

3.45pm Ribblesdale Stakes

To get things underway I will be playing in the Ribblesdale, a decent Group 2 contest for fillies over 1m4f.  Final Score won the Italian Oaks and certainly deserves her place here but Italian runners tend not to perform well over here.  Both the Aidan O’Brien horses, Terrific and Bracelet, will need to improve on previous form to figure and there are classier fillies in the race.

One of those is Vazira who will be extremely popular for connections that don’t often make the foray over the English Channel from France. She finished second in a Group 1 and has the form in the book to run a big race.  However, the one who looks to be the best bet in the race is BRIGHT APPROACH (8/1 SkyBet).  She was unlucky when making ground in the Cheshire Oaks and will enjoy the step up in trip, some of her form has worked out well, connections are in great form and she should be a good price.  Others to look out for will be Oaks trial runner-up Criteria from the same stable, Oaks fourth placed finisher – Inchila, who will definitely be well fancied to run a big race after that performance, and finally Wonderstruck who should be well supported with Frankie Dettori on board.

Betting Tip – BRIGHT APPROACH (WIN) (8/1 SkyBet)

4.25pm Gold Cup

There are plenty of classy horses lining up to try and win one of the biggest prizes in racing history.  Leading the home charge is Brown Panther who is well supported wherever he runs and has been a great servant to connections.  The fear is that he has come up short at Group level on a few occasions and this could be another step too far for this valiant horse.  Well-travelled Tac De Boistron will also have a cracking chance especially if the ground is soft but he does have to make form up with German raider Altano who finished fifth in this race last year behind Estimate.

The roof will come off once again if the Queen’s horse Estimate wins again but it has been a long time since we have seen her after being beaten in the Champions Long Distance Cup last October and a lack of race fitness may scupper her chances.

Despite the top quality field, LEADING LIGHT (11/8 SkyBet) stands out as the one they all have to beat.  He gave Royal Diamond and Pale Mimosa a severe beating at Navan on his return and has Group 1 form to his name after winning last year’s St Leger.  He also won the Queen’s Vase last year and will be extremely well fancied to carry on the Aidan O’Brien/Coolmore love affair with the race after the likes of Yeats and Fame and Glory.

Betting Tip – LEADING LIGHT (WIN)(NAP) (11/8 SkyBet)
