Man United v Cambridge Betting Tips

Following their stalemate at the Abbey Stadium, the wolves were out for Louis van Gaal and his Manchester United side after a flat display and some truly pathetic excuses. Little did everyone know that less than 24 hours later, United would be the tournament favourites.

In a competition that has been littered with shocks already, LVG will be unlikely to take too many chances with his match day starting line-up vs Cambridge tonight. With the exception of the injuries to Michael Carrick and Ashley Young, United will have a full strength squad to choose from. Perhaps more ominously for their opponents, though, Manchester United blew away Leicester City in an electric first half display this weekend, with both Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie netting a goal apiece in a 3-1 victory.

Since their excellent display against United, Cambridge have gone a little off the boil with a draw and a defeat in their last two games in League Two. It's understandable how they might find it hard to raise their game after such a high-profile encounter. If I went on a date with Scarlett Johansson, I wouldn't be too chuffed about having breakfast with Dot Cotton.

Similarly to their opponents, Cambridge only have a couple of injury worries to contend with. Liam Hughes is struggling with a sprained ankle and Harrison Dunk – who looked lively in is substitute appearance against United – has an unfortunate knee injury that is likely to sideline him for several weeks.

Browsing the early prices and Manchester United are clear favourites at 1/11. Cambridge can be backed at a whopping 40/1, with the draw on offer at a best priced 12/1.

As much as I would love to see another cup upset, it would be ridiculous to suggest anything other than a home win for my Man United v Cambridge betting tips. However, at such measly odds, it's very much a question of how much Manchester United could potentially win by. Although Draw/Man U offers some value in the HT/FT market, judging by the speed and efficiency that United disposed of Leicester on Saturday, this could prove particularly risky.

Therefore, back Manchester United to win with a -3 goal handicap at 13/8 with Coral tonight.

Moving into the goalscoring markets and there is very little value on offer as an anytime scorer, with many of the usual suspects trading well under even money. However, in a game where United are likely to open the scoring, why not have a punt on a first goalscorer. Just Mata was on the bench against Leicester so you would expect LVG to hand the Spanish international a start on Tuesday night.

At 5/1 with William hill, Mata is well priced to notch first in the game. Should Mata score the second goal of the match, the bookmaker will refund your stake as a free bet.
