The first race of the meeting will likely see a short priced favourite sent off in the form of Animal Kingdom. The second race in contrast will see the best sprinters in the world face off in a 5 furlong dash which looks likely to a competitive affair.

The favourite here is Shea Shea but at 9/4 with Coral he is plenty short enough in such a big field and looks opposable at the current prices. He won at Meydan twice in the month of March (beating Sole Power who also lines up here) and is in good form so whilst favouritism is justified a betting proposition he is not. I’d be more tempted to side with RECKLESS ABANDON (11/2 with Coral) who had a brace of Group 1 victories last year and will be much better for his run at Haydock a few weeks ago. Avoiding the temptation of a Guineas tilt earlier in the season, connections feel he is a sprinter and this rather than the 6f Golden Jubilee Stakes appears to be the favoured option as things stand.

Sole Power is also a back-able price at the moment, currently sitting around the 9/1 mark with Bet Victor, but I don’t see him adding to his sole Group 1 victory here without his market rivals underperforming. That sole success was back in August 2010 and whilst he should run well he may find a couple too strong. There are some other interesting contenders in this field and one to watch might be the lightly raced but highly regarded Pearl Secret. Unbeaten on his first 4 starts he is already a Listed winner. The Group 1 came too soon for him last season as a three year old and although he is yet to race yet this season he is open to progress and can go well. Available to back at 14/1 with Coral.
