Horse racing betting tips for the best bets from the Curragh on Sunday.

Sunday provides some high quality racing with the third and final day of the Curragh’s Irish Derby meeting being ably supported by good racing from Salisbury, Windsor and Uttoxeter.

The Friarstown Stud International Stakes, a Group 3 over 1m2f, has only attracted five runners but there is plenty of class on offer.  The 3yo’s look dangerous with both Ebanoran and Mekong River having strong claims.  The latter looked a good horse in his first four victories but hasn’t been able to transfer that form to the highest level and looks vulnerable.  The former was unlucky to lose his victory in the Derrinstown in the Steward’s room and wasn’t able to land a blow in the Derby.  I do feel this horse is progressive and likely to improve in time but his lack of experience may well see him suffer.

The Jim Bolger representative – PARISH HALL (4/1 Ladbrokes), is a proven performer at this level and his defeat by a neck to Magician looks very strong form. He should arrive here in good form and although he will have to give a lot of weight away to his younger rivals his experience should see him through this test.

Betting Tip – PARISH HALL (WIN) (4/1 Ladbrokes)

The Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes over 1m2f is one of the biggest races of the year for fillies and is always well contested.

Considering his dominance in Ireland, Aiden O’Brien has only won this race twice in the past but he saddles three here all with live chances. Marvellous failed to land a blow in the Oaks, looks to be the second string on jockey bookings and, as such, Venus De Milo is more interesting.  She finished second in the Irish Oaks last season and impressed when winning the Munster Oaks on her latest start.

Thistle Bird is another interesting type who comes here in great form after a win at Epsom in a Group 3.  She is a high class horse with every chance but she seems to struggle in Group 1 company and could find one too good here again.

Plenty of dangers exist with the likes of Harasiya, who finished fourth in this race 12 months ago, Just The Judge who wasn’t far behind Thistle Bird last time and Pearl Of Africa who won a Listed race last time out.

The one horse who does stand out is AMBIVALENT (3/1 SkyBet).  She was tipped up here when winning the Middleton Stakes and she won this race last year.  Her third place finish in the Coronation Cup was a huge effort and the form of her last three runs looks to be in a different league to anything else here.  I can’t see much beating her and she should land the double.

Betting Tip – AMBIVALENT (WIN)(NAP) (3/1 SkyBet)
