Football betting tips for Everton v Sunderland

After grabbing a 3-0 win over their North East rivals Newcastle on Sunday, Sam Allardyce’s Black Cats travel to Merseyside with renewed hope and a glimmer of optimism. Everton are the hosts, and with back to back defeats in the League, Sunday’s 13:30 kick off is shaping up to be an even affair.

Whilst Roberto Martinez’s side are sitting in 11^th place in the table with 13 points from 11 games, it must be noted that their opening 10 fixtures have been as hard as you can get in the Premier League. The Toffees have already played all of last season’s top 8, and they will be looking forward to the next set of fixtures against the bottom sides.

The Blues haven’t won at home since clawing back a 2 goal deficit against West Brom to snatch the game 3-2 from Tony Pulis’ side. However, Sunderland haven’t won away from the Stadium of Light since last season, ironically in a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

This win in May is the only away win Sunderland have managed in 16 Premier League games, and despite Big Sam’s arrival The Black Cats would probably take a draw right now.

Sunday’s match up is a hard one to call, but you always know one thing about Allardyce sides; they will be tight and compact, and give very little away. Everton don’t have a great knack for opening up teams at will, and I think they could be caught out on the counter a few times by Sunderland.

Everton managed a midweek penalty shoot out win over Norwich in the Capital One Cup and Martinez used the clash as a chance to give some of his fringe players a run out. However, Romelu Lukaku and John Stones were risked and may well be feeling the pace on Sunday given that Sunderland had no such midweek exertions after their League Cup exit last month.

Given the way that Big Sam likes to set his teams up away from home, this game is very unlikely to be a goal fest.
