Football Accumulator Tips

Wigan v Blackpool – Wigan win

Wigan may have been battered by Bury on Saturday in the FA Cup, but it's a chance to bounce back here against an out of form Blackpool. The Seasiders don't have a large squad and injuries are starting to kick in, they made a number of changes in their 2-0 defeat to Barnet at the weekend and this competition won't be high on their list of priorities. Neil McDonald may choose to bring some peripheral players in, but many of these are youth graduates or loanees with little experience in the Football League. Wigan have a much deeper pool to choose from should they wish to ring the changes. Gary Caldwell will send out a decent looking team for this one and they should see off their Lancashire rivals here.

Rochdale v Morecambe – Rochdale win

Sticking with the JPT, Spotland hosts this contest between Rochdale and Morecambe. Its the second cup tie in the space of 4 days for Keith Hill's side as they saw off Swindon on Saturday by 3 goals to 1. Morecambe couldn't score past lowly Dagenham on Saturday and the goals appear to have dried up for the Shrimps. Shaun Miller got the player of the month in league 2 and they will want him to carry on his recent form, but the Rochdale backline has been pretty hard to get past. They had 3 consecutive 0-0 draws and they very rarely lose here, with only Bradford picking up 3 points here recently. Hill will realistically believe his side can win this competition and potentially book a Wembley date to get fans excited.

Woking v Braintree – Braintree Draw No Bet

17th place Woking have had a season of two halves so far. After keeping a number of clean sheets and winning 5 of their first 7 games, it's all gone a bit pear shaped. The entire squad has been transfer listed and it's not been a great few weeks at the Kingfield Stadium. They welcome Braintree who are away specialists in this league and the visitors may take all the stopping. They've lost just once since the end of September and that was to in-form Lincoln, who have been upwardly mobile for some time. They won 2-0 away at Eastleigh and picked up a point against high flying Cheltenham and have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 matches. They even took high flying Oxford United to a replay in the FA Cup. They should be able to take the points back to Essex.

Dover Athletic v Eastleigh – Both Teams to Score? Yes

These two sides have both been playing well in recent weeks, with many points being picked up and this could be a tremendously entertaining game of football. The home side sit in 3rd with the visitors in 7th. There's always plenty of goals when Eastleigh come to town, they've only failed to score 3 times this season, the last one being against Braintree, who have the best defence in the division. They've not kept a clean sheet since the 22nd August in a 1-0 victory over Macclesfield. 3 of their last 4 matches have featured over 2.5 goals with the other finishing 1-1. Dover did keep a clean sheet last time away at Tranmere, but that was their first since the 25th September. They've found the net in 7 of their last 8 games and in the form they are in, you can see them breaching the Eastleigh backline at least once.

Cheltenham v Guisely – Cheltenham win

It's a quick turnaround for many of these National League sides who were in FA Cup action at the weekend. Cheltenham were unlucky to be beaten by Hartlepool at Victoria Park, but that was a long journey they had to endure to the North East. They've had a good season so far under Gary Johnson, they've bounced back from relegation in confident style and sit 2nd in the table. They face a Guisley side who haven't been faring too badly themselves, they've won their last 2 games, both at home to Barrow and Welling United, but this is much harder. They went through a poor patch, losing 3 consecutive matches, conceding 7 goals with none in reply. They bounced back in an incredible match with Wrexham which finished 3-3 at the racecourse ground. I was going to back both teams to score, but I believe Cheltenham's defence has improved and keeping Grimsby out at Blundell Park was a tremendous achievement and I think they can kick on and win.
