Ebor Festival: Day 1 Betting Tips

The Ebor Festival gets underway at York on Wednesday and we have got the very best free horse racing betting tips for three of the races on Wednesday 21st August. 

1.55 York – Symphony Group Handicap (Class 2) 5f89y

E/W Selection:  DEMORA @ 12/1 with Ladbrokes

This filly is a progressive sprinter who has won three of her last 5 starts, one of which was a defeat of the re-opposing Tax Free, winner of this race last year. Most of her winning has been done at a lower level than this but she ran well behind several of these rivals in a similar event last time out. She showed good early speed and after looking a little one paced she stayed on again at the finish. Drawn wide she got no cover at all that day and ran quite freely. She tends to race prominently and is better off at the weights with the likes of Secret Asset, Lady Of Gibraltar and Tax Free here. Remains progressive and should be finishing to good effect and capable of going close if race is run to suit.

2.30 York – Acomb Stakes (Group 3) 7f

Selection: FIRST FLIGHT @ 2/1 with Coral

Potential a plenty despite the small field and the selection is the Godolphin trained colt who overcame greenness to record a comfortable success on his only start to date. He dwelt out the stalls and looked in need of the experience but he proved much the best on the day and came home clear, running on stylishly as he started to get the hang of things late on. The form of that race is nothing to write home about but visually given how green he ran in the early part of the race it was an impressive debut performance. Several of these have looked green in their races to date and Il Paparazzi’s experience at the track and on the bend make him a threat to all, but there is more to come from the selection and the extra furlong should suit him well.

3.05 York – Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2) 1m4f

Selection: TELESCOPE @ 13/8 with Bet Victor

Turned over at short odds last time out, on the face of it that was a disappointing effort but against the older horses over an inadequate trip it was a solid effort on just his fourth career start. The step up in trip is sure to suit him and back against his own age group he is the one they have to beat. The top rated horse in the field, there is surely more to come over this sort of trip and he can get back on track here. Secret Number has been unlucky on several occasions this year and looks the chief threat if he can put it all together.

3.40 York – Juddmonte International Stakes (Group 1) 1m2f88y

Selection: TORONADO @ 7/4 with Betfred

Toronado won his first Group 1 last time out in the Sussex Stakes sweeping past Dawn Approach late on and will appreciate the extra 2 furlongs. He is progressive and his turn of foot could catch out Al Kazeem, who has taken a while to reach top gear at times in his races. Getting 7lb from Al Kazeem I fancy him to run his rival close; Al Kazeem has had some tough races this season and I think this will prove his toughest test to date.
