Bosnia v Nigeria Betting Tips and Predictions

The World Cup has exploded into life, already producing incredible goals, breath-taking saves and exceptional comebacks, with many claiming this to be the greatest start to a World Cup ever. Group F is certainly worthy of attention with Nigeria and Bosnia vying to finish behind probable group winners Argentina and progress into the Round of 16.

When Bosnia face Nigeria on Saturday 21st June in Arena Pantanal, Cuiabá there will be extra pressure on both considering disappointing results in their opening games. Bosnia narrowly lost 2-1 to Argentina and Nigeria draw 0-0 with Iran, so both nations will be looking to bounce back and get their first win in this summer’s competition.

After Bosnia’s spirited performance against Argentina they will be favourites against Nigeria and are odds of 19/20 with Coral to grab all 3 points. Their squad has a startling amount of players plying their trade in the biggest leagues in the world. Asmir Begovic and Eden Dzeko both play in the Premier League for Stoke and Man City respectively. In Serie A, Roma’s Miralem Pjanic and Lazio’s Senad Lulic are the two stars in Bosnia’s midfield. Although Bosnia are debutants in the competition the experience from these players will give them an edge in their mission to progress to the next round. Dzeko will be desperate to get off the mark and score his first World Cup goal and with question marks over Nigeria’s defence, this game may provide the perfect opportunity.

Several times against Iran, Nigeria looked vulnerable in defending set pieces and Dzeko will be looking to exploit this apparent weakness. Dzeko has all the qualities of a top class striker and was instrumental in Man City’s rise as Premier League Champions in the 2013/14 season, especially in the absence of the injured Sergio Aguero. This domestic form has also been translated onto the international stage, scoring 10 goals in qualification to send Bosnia to their first ever finals. Dzeko to score first is 4/1 with Ladbrokes.

Nigeria will be disappointment with their performance in their opening game after only picking up a draw against lowly ranked Iran. Several key players underperformed with Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel accused of unnecessarily slowing down the play and Victor Moses taken off before the hour. Substitutes including Newcastle United’s Shola Ameobi and Stoke City’s Peter Odemwingie also struggled to make an impact on the game when introduced. Nigeria has a team with plenty of talent and experience but may find it difficult to apply it to this World Cup. After showing glimpses of performing on the big stage at the Confederations Cup last summer they have not kicked on as expected, with unacceptable defeats to lowly ranked ‘minnows’ Jordan and Mali. However, the Nigerian fans and team will be hoping they can recapture their form against Bosnia especially as they face the challenge of Argentina in their final group game.

This is likely to be a cagey affair with both teams looking to avoid defeat, as a loss would signal elimination from the group stage. However, this World Cup has been producing more goals and attacking football than has been seen in the competition for decades. Hopefully this game will follow the trend, with over 2.5 goals in this game providing good value at 5/7 with Bet 365.
