The Dean Ivory trained TROPICS (5/1 SkyBet) heads the field carrying top weight. On his seasonal reappearance he slightly disappointed when finishing seventh behind Dinkum Diamond (who re-opposes here) in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster. Looking back over his career form, he usually needs his first race and comes on for the run. He has winning form at Newmarket (albeit on the July course), and the good ground shouldn’t hinder his chances either. The six furlongs is his specialised distance, and with Ivory confident that he will have improved after Doncaster, there is every chance that this horse will put in a bold show.

There are a couple of chief threats in the race which include the Roger Varian trained – Aljamaaheer (11/8 William Hill), a who will be partnered by jockey Paul Hanagan. This five year-old returns to a six furlong trip, for the first time since his maiden win. He had done little wrong over seven and eight furlongs until last time out, so this step back is a bit of a surprise.

Dinkum Diamond (7/1 bet365) was victorious last time out in the Cammidge Trophy, but prior to that hadn’t shown the most promising of form. Oisin Murphy keeps the ride and maintains a partnership that seems to work. Despite the up and coming jockey sure to get the best out of this horse, I’d be surprised if he could claim this victory, especially when you consider that the horse has yet to claim back to back victories since his first two career runs.

TROPICS has some solid career form, and ticks a lot of boxes needed to win this contest. In the hope that he continues his tendency of benefitting considerably for his first run of the season, I think he represents a solid bet. He looks a progressive type with a bundle of potential, and looks the one to beat here.
