Argentina v Iran 5pm

Argentina were far from their best as they overcame Bosnia in their opening match but got the result they needed thanks to a great goal from Lionel Messi and an own-goal. They didn’t impress but got the result they needed, something that could be key if they want to go all the way – winning without being at your best.

Iran got what they would consider a good result in their opener as they kept it tight at the back to get a 0-0 draw against Nigeria. Iran qualified thanks to organization and a strong defence and they showed it again against Nigeria. If they want to have any chance of taking anything off Nigeria, they will need to do the same again at the back.

There is little value in backing Argentina outright here as they are as low as 1/10 in some places! They should have more than enough quality to break down a sturdy Iran defence but it won’t be easy.  The fact of the matter is though that Iran don’t concede goals – just one in their last 5 fixtures. Argentina have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of their last six also, this may not be as easy as the bookies suggest.

If Iran don’t concede early Argentina may get frustrated and it could be an interesting match. Iran are strong at the back but have for the most part been playing sides who are much weaker than Argentina. Even with this considered, 11/5 is far too big with William Hill for Argentina to win and under 2.5 goals.

Germany v Ghana 8pm

One of the pre-tournament favorites were Germany and their resounding 4-0 opening day victory over Portugal has done nothing to change that. They may have been playing against 10 men for long periods but they were ruthless and smart. They spent most of the second half with the game already won and preserving energy. They will be determined to pick up another win here and get a place in the last 16 secured.

Ghana on the other hand now have a lot of work to do to qualify for the next round. With Portugal heavily beaten, a win against the USA could have put them in pole position to qualify. After a slow start, they fell behind very early on but did eventually equalize. The USA grabbed a late, late winner and Ghana fell to an opening day defeat.

Germany are now unbeaten in 12 matches and were very impressive against Portugal. Ghana have now lost three of their last four matches and their World Cup could be over come full-time.

Ghana do know where the net is though, they have plenty of pace on the counter and will have to attack to get a result here. They recently put 4 past South Korea in a friendly and we did see their attacking talent in glimpses v USA. They averaged 3 goals per game in qualifying and Germany aren’t the most secure at the back, the likes of Armenia and Cameroon scored against them in recent friendlies. Nigeria v Bosnia 11pm

The night is wrapped up with Nigeria v Bosnia back in Group F. These two are seen as the sides fighting it out for second place in this group so this match is vital.

Nigeria were disappointing in their opening game, drawing 0-0 against Iran and rarely threatening the goal. They are now without a win in 5 matches but they have drawn 4 of them. Bosnia put up a good fight against Argentina in their opener and deserved their consolation goal to make it 2-1. They played some good stuff and have plenty of pedigree from European leagues, a win could be on the cards here.

Nigeria need the result a lot more here as they face Argentina on the last day while a point for Bosnia would give them a great chance of qualifying if they can beat Iran. Bosnia won’t play for the draw though and really worried Argentina at times in their opening game.

Bosnia look the better of these two after the opening matches and are worth getting on at 19/20 with Coral.
