Wimbledon Day 3: Round 2 Preview and Best Bets

With the first round of Wimbledon out of the way, we have a better idea of the form and mindset some of the players are in. Rafael Nadal's shocking defeat was the main story of Round 1. I can't see such a long odds outsider winning in round two but will take a look at some of the best value bets on Wednesday in both the mens and the womens tournament.

Steve Darcis' victory over Nadal brings back memories of Lukas Rosol's victory last year. After excelling in a show court, Rosol was placed on an outside court the next round and went out with a whimper to Philipp Kohlschreiber. It's a similar situation this time round with Darcis taking on Lukasz Kubot. While admittedly an exceptional performance from Darcis, this was way above his usual level and it would not be a surprise at all to see Darcis flop. The 2.25 available on Kubot looks value, especially considering Darcis lost in straight sets to a Swiss qualifier on his last grass tournament before Wimbledon.

Lleyton Hewitt rolled back the years against Stanislas Wawrinka with a stunning straight sets victory and has an outstanding chance to make the second round. He plays Dustin Brown, the entertaining German qualifier. However, his serve and volley style is just what Hewitt thrives on and it seems unlikely that Brown can make an impact. There is the danger that Brown could get hot and nick a tie break but 1.98 with Sportingbet is well worth the risk.

Petra Cetkovska surprised the 16 year old Donna Vekic in round one as she continues her good form since returning from injury. Cetkovska has pulled off impressive results in the past on the grass, defeating Agnieszka Radwanska and Ana Ivanovic in 2011. The odds look big on her to defeat Caroline Wozniacki. The Dane has been far from impressive on the grass and was defeated by a Round 1 loser in Jamie Hampton from a very comfortable position last week. Wozniacki dropped two games in round one but I feel that this may have led to Wozniacki being overrated hence giving a very nice price of 3.25 on Cetkovska.
