Wimbledon 2013 Mens Singles Outright Betting Tips

It's time for the third Grand Slam of the year as the grass season hits it peak at Wimbledon. We are going to take a look at the draw and pick out the best value tips in the outrights.

The controversy surrounding Rafael Nadal's seeding at number five has yet to die down and and with it the draw once again looks quite lopsided, this time in Novak Djokovic's (13/10 Betfred) favour.

Despite this, the Serbian's heavy favouritism looks somewhat off considering he has struggled at Wimbledon relative to other surfaces. He has a record of 1-4 against Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray combined on grass and struggles to move as well on the green stuff too. His only victory over the aforementioned players his 2011 final victory of Rafael Nadal but it is clear to see Djokovic is not quite at the extraordinary level of two years ago.

Therefore, despite a draw that looks like plain sailing all the way to the final it is hard to fancy that price given that he will more than likely play one of three very competent grass court players on the other side. Roger Federer (10/1 Paddy Power) looks to be on the decline with just the one title this year although it was the one most recently on the grass of Halle. He took the title last year and defeated Djokovic on the way while also making the final of the Olympics before getting torn apart by Andy Murray.

Andy Murray (4/1 William Hill) can lay claim to being one of the best two grass courters in the world and arguably the first and we fancy him to show it at this tournament. He took the Queens title after defeating Marin Cilic in the final and could well face the Croatian in the quarters this time around although the higher-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is projected to play the Scot that round. Both have awful records against Murray so it is hard to see anything changing bar injury issues. He looks likely to play Rafael Nadal in the semis and I expect Murray to take this match win the title. They have not played since late 2011 and it's hard to decide how much to take into account these encounters given Murray's dramatic improvements over the past 18 months, especially since hiring Ivan Lendl. A final with Djokovic on this surface should be of no concern, especially given the victory in the Olympics where Murray's serve was not broken once by the Serbian.

Rafael Nadal (5/1 Bet365) has been in superb form since his return winning seven titles and losing just twice. Although more than capable of it, a draw that would see him need to defeat three of the top four may take it's toll and could catch up with Nadal. One good thing for the Spaniard is the absence of heavy hitters early in the draw who would hope to hit Nadal off the court in the early rounds where the courts are faster.

David Ferrer (80/1 Sportingbet EW 1/2 1,2) has shown incredible consistency over the past two years to find himself in the top four. It seems disrespectful in the markets to the Spaniard to be priced this high when he is almost a certainty to make the quarter finals and should fancy his chances against likely opponent in that round Juan Martin Del Potro. Ferrer will like the slower courts as the tournament goes on and should be a favourite to beat Del Potro should that match happen – last year Ferrer defeated the Argentinian in straight sets at the tournament. 40/1 about essentially beating Djokovic and Del Potro is way off and is worth an each-way punt.
