Best Horse Racing Tips for this Weekend – With the weather as bad as it has been, and conditions far from ideal, finding winners is a difficult job. Yet we keep managing to do so and I have two of my best bets for the weekend with the aim of keeping up the good form!
Ascot runs the best card of the weekend, but in the search of value i’ve chosen to look elsewhere. My first tip comes in the 1.45pm at Haydock, a tricky looking novice hurdle where I will be backing SLIPPER SATIN (12/1 bet365) each-way. The four year old owes me a few quid after unseating Jack Quinlan at the first last time out at Wetherby but prior to that he had been pretty impressive when taking a minor event at Fakenham on heavy ground. Although this is a step up in class, he has apparently schooled well since at home and connections think he deserves his chance to mix with better horses while conditions remain in his favour.
Later in the afternoon i’m taking a risk when backing ZARKANDER (7/4 Betfred) in the 3.35pm at Wincanton for the Paul Nicholls team. I was down at the yard yesterday for the annual meet the trainers interviews. Despite running over the minimum trip here, this seven year-old will run in preparation for the Cheltenham Festival and a tilt at the World Hurdle, with his trainer confident that he will get the 3m trip. In terms of this race, he has won over 2m on seven occasions (within a furlong), so holds no fears for him or jockey Daryl Jacob. With the anticipated heavy ground slowing down his rivals another positive. I am wary that he may need the run (he is the best horse by a mile if fit enough), so wont be betting anything more than a small Saturday afternoon fun bet today with bigger fish to fry later in the season.
