1.40 Newmarket

Those lucky enough to attend Newmarket’s charity driven open day will have heard John Gosden suggest that BELLE D’OR (9/4 William Hill) has every chance of making it three wins on the bounce this afternoon. She is apparently working well on the gallops and if Gosden thinks she has a good chance then she seems an obvious opening tip.

2.40 Newmarket

If you read the hype ahead of this weekend’s meeting then you will be fully aware that Karl Burke thinks WHAT SAY YOU (8/1 Betfred) is the real deal and will go on to bigger and better things both this season and next with the 1,000 Guineas very much on the agenda. She is bred to stay a lot further so a fast run race would be a big benefit in my view but that is quite likely as she can make the running if needed and seems worthy of consideration at the very least.

3.15 Newmarket

Possibly the biggest improver of the season to date after winning three races already this season, CAPTAIN CAT (4/1 Ladbrokes) was officially rated 97 at the beginning of the year and races today off of 115. He is not officially the best horse in the race, that honour belongs to Outstrip who has to be seen as a serious rival, but I do like the way the Roger Charlton’s runner pounces from off the pace, and he will do for me this afternoon.

5.00 Newmarket

Not a race I really wanted to get involved in but as GM HOPKINS (6/1 bet365) failed to get in to the Cambridgeshire “proper” for John Gosden and, this in theory is a weaker race, he could well take advantage this afternoon. A winner this season at both Nottingham and Sandown, he gets in here carrying a penalty but should certainly be in the mix in the final few furlongs.
