Horse racing value tips for today’s racing from Haydock and Newmarket.

3.25 Haydock

We begin with a Listed race for fillies over a mile where John Gosden’s red hot form could well continue with his lightly raced runner – SOLAR MAGIC (13/2 William Hill).  After two close efforts, his charge romped home with ease at Ascot on good ground.  The selection showed on her last effort she continues to progress after every run and she can continue to do so here despite a big step up in class.  Furthermore, if the forecast rain arrives, this horse has run well on soft ground so that shouldn't offer to much of a concern.  In contrast Lightning Thunder takes a big step down in class here and looks the biggest danger.  Olly Stevens’ filly is the obvious form horse, having finished second in the 1000 Guineas and the Irish equivalent and deserves respect.

3.35 Newmarket

In terms of value, STROLL PATROL (14/1 Betfred) looks a solid each-way bet in this Group 3 for fillies.  She represents the small Phillip McBride stable, which should ensure bookmakers overlook this runner.  She finished a strong third on her racecourse debut over course and distance, showing her inexperience as she hung left badly needing the line.  However, the two-year-old then lined up at Leicester, on better ground, and bolted-up easily.  Although that win came over 5f, she didn’t look like stopping that day and running at a lower pace over the seven furlongs she should still be able to produce her exceptional turn of foot.  

The main danger looks to be Winters Moon, who beat the selection on debut and Stroll Patrol will obviously have to reverse that form.  That was Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge’s first run and she looked a solid horse.  This is a race that Godolphin love to win, having won it for the past five years, so clearly connections may have sent their best 2yo to win this.
