2.35 Goodwood

There looks like there can be only one winner in this year’s renewal of the Richmond Stakes and that is IVAWOOD (1/2 William Hill).  He looks a serious colt for the future, having won easily on debut at Sandown before romping home in the Group 2 July Stakes impressively winning by two-and-a-half lengths.  Richard Hannon has an excellent record at the track and the selection looks a open to plenty of improvement and this is his race to lose.

Jungle Cat represents the in-form Mark Johnston yard and should be contesting the placings.  He finished behind the selection last time out after a good run in the Coventry Stakes and, although he will struggle to reverse the form, he is the next best in the field by a long way.

3.10 Goodwood

The Goodwood Cup is one of my favourite races of the year and I think that BROWN PANTHER (7/2 Ladbrokes) can retain the crown he won last year.  He’s had a superb season, winning twice before finishing fourth in a strong Ascot Gold Cup, just tailing off in the closing stages.  Based on his career form, a return to 2m is ideal and the ground shouldn't be an inconvenience, although he is arguably better in testing conditions.

Estimate finished ahead of the selection at the Royal meeting on only her  first run of the season.  Although she arrives here race fit and gets the benefit of a mare’s allowance, she struggled at the track last season could well do so once again.  Moreover, although the Queen’s horse has won over 2m, I think that she is seen to best effect over further and could be vulnerable here.
