Today’s Horse Racing Tips – Saturday 8th August 2015

NEWMARKET HORSE RACING TIPS (C4/RUK)

1.40 – Betway Fillies´ Nursery Handicap Cl2 7f CH4

4 previous renewals
4/4 – Priced 7/1 or bigger in the betting
3/4 – Carried 8-11 or more in weight
2/4 – Ridden by Luke Morris
0/4 – Winning favourites
Charlie Appleby has a 21% record at the track with his 2 year-olds
Sir Mark Prescott has a 25% record with this 2 year-olds here

VERDICT: Jockey Luke Morris has ridden the last two winners of this race and tries to repeat the feat with Poster Girl. However, this could be another for the Godolphin team with BLOSSOMTIME (e/w) (Bet here at 11/2 with Paddy Power). Yes, the horse was beaten by another of today’s runners – Holy Grail – last time but there is a weight pull for that 4 lengths plus the pick is now professional ridden (Adam Kirby). We also expect the step up to 7f to suit based on breeding.

2.15 – Betway Grey Horse Handicap (for Grey Horses Only) Cl4 6f CH4

11/12 – Aged 5 or older
11/12 – Didn’t win last time out
10/12 – Had 4 or more runs already that season
10/12 – Had 3 or more career wins
10/12 – Aged 5, 6 or 7 years-old
10/12 – Won over 6f previously
9/12 – Carried 9-1 or less in weight
9/12 – Winning distance of 1 length or less
8/12 – Priced 8/1 or shorter in the betting
8/12 – Favourites unplaced
3/12 – Trained by Tony Newcombe
1/12 – Favourites
The average winning SP in the last 10 years is 13/1
Crew Cut win the race in 2013
Time Medicean won the race in 2011

VERDICT: A spectacle of a race here with all greys running and we think the 2013 winner of the race – CREW CUT (e/w) (Bet here at 17/2 with William Hill) – could be the answer again. Another good-looking ride for Adam Kirby here, while the horse heads here off the back of a good win at HQ last time and is still 2lbs lower than when he won the race 2 years ago

2.50 – Betway Price Blitz Stakes (Handicap) Cl2 6f CH4

12/13 – Didn’t win last time out
11/13 – Only had 1 or 2 career wins to their name
11/13 – Had 4 or more previous runs that season
10/13 – Won over 6f previously
10/13 – Came from stall 10 or lower
9/13 – Winning distance ½ length or less
9/13 – Priced 8/1 or shorter in the betting
9/13 – Carried 8-13 or less in weight
9/13 – Officially Rated 82 to 88 inc
8/13 – Finished 2nd or 3rd last time out
6/13 – Raced at the track before (4 won)
6/13 – Raced at Ascot last time out
5/13 – Winners won by a neck
4/13 – Raced at Newmarket last time out
3/13 – Favourites (1 joint)
2/13 – Trained by David Barron
2/13 – Trained by Kevin Ryan (last 2 runnings)
2/13 – Trained by Roger Charlton
2/13 – Trained by Mark Johnston
The average winning SP in the last 10 runnings is 9.5/1

VERDICT: PRIMROSE VALLEY (e/w) (Bet here at 14/1 with 888 Sport) has been knocking at the door and in recent weeks has been third in the Stewards’ Cup and then fourth last week in the Shergar Cup Sprint. He takes his racing well and gets in here off the same 100 mark as last time, but connections take off a valuable 5lb with Tom Marquand’s claim – so that could be the different.

NEWBURY HORSE RACING TIPS  (C4/RUK)

2.00 – Denford Stud Stakes (Registered as The Washington Singer Stakes) (Listed Race) Cl1 7f CH4

12/13 – Priced 4/1 or shorter in the betting
11/13 – Placed in the first three last time out
10/13 – Winning distance 1 ¼ lengths or more
10/13 – Won a race before
10/13 – Won by a Feb (7) or March (3) foal
9/13 – Won over 6 or 7f before
8/13 – Favourites placed
8/13 – Horses from stall 3 placed
7/13 – Favourites (2 joint)
6/13 – Won their last race
6/13 – Raced at Newmarket last time out
4/13 – Raced at Goodwood (2) or Sandown (2) last time out
3/13 – Ridden by Frankie Dettori
3/13 – Trained by John Gosden
3/13 – Trained by Mark Johnston
2/13 – Ridden by Ryan Moore
2/13 – Won on their racecourse debut
The average winning SP in the last 10 runnings is 11/4

VERDICT: Godolphin’s Cymric will be popular, but on these terms this looks between PALAWAN (Bet here at 7/4 with Bet365) and Twin Sails, with preference for the first named. Richard Hannon’s horse was a fast-finishing close third last time out in a Group Two at Goodwood and back into Listed company will make him hard to beat.

2.35 – Betfred Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 1m5f61y CH4

13/13 – Won at least twice in their career
11/13 – Won over 1m4f or further previoulsy
10/13 – Placed 1st or 2nd last time out
10/13 – Officially rated 111 or higher
9/13 – Priced 4/1 or shorter in the betting
9/13 – Aged 3-5 years-old
9/13 – Winning distance of 1 ¼ lengths or more
9/13 – Drawn in stall 3 or higher
8/13 – Had 3 or more previous runs that season
8/13 – Raced at Goodwood (3) or Newmarket (5) last time out
8/13 – Favourites placed
7/13 – Favourites
7/13 – Already won a Group race
6/13 – Won at Newbury previously
3/13 – Ridden by Ryan Moore
2/13 – Trained by Saeed Bin Suroor
2/13 – Trained by Jeremy Noseda
The average winning SP in the last 10 runnings is 5/1

VERDICT: A few with chances here – with ROMSDAL (Bet here at 2/1 with Ladbrokes) and Red Cadeaux two of those – the pick has solid form at this level and hails from the all-powerful Godolphin team – if running to form should be bang in the mix.

3.10 – Betfred "Supports Jack Berry House" Ladies Day Handicap Cl3 7f CH4

12/13 – Aged 3, 4 or 5 years-old
11/13 – Had 4 or more previous runs that season
11/13 – Won at least twice during their career
10/13 – Priced 9/1 or shorter in the betting
9/13 – Previous winners over 7f
9/13 – Placed in the top 4 last time out
9/13 – Winning distance 1 length or shorter
8/13 – Rated between 95 and 103
8/13 – Aged 3 or 4 years-old
8/13 – Carried 9-1 or more in weight
7/13 – Drawn in stalls 12, 13, 14 or 15
6/13 – Raced at Ascot last time out
6/13 – Raced at Newbury previously
3/13 – Favourites (1 joint)
2/13 – Trained by Mark Johnston
2/13 – Won by the Hills yard
2/13 – Ridden by Jamie Spencer
The average winning SP in the last 10 runnings is 6/1

VERDICT: Horses aged 3, 4 or 5 have won 12 of the last 13 running of this race, while horses drawn in 12, 13, 14 and 15 have then best record too. With that in mind Roger Varian’s MUJASSAM (Bet here at 10/3 with Betfred) stands out. This 3 year-old was a solid winner last time out at Salisbury – winning by an easy 8 lengths. Yes, this is more competitive and a 14lb rise looks harsh, but he’s clearly improving and Paul Hanagan continues in the saddle.

3.45 – Betfred Hungerford Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 7f CH4

12/13 – Won a Listed (4) or Group (7) race before
12/13 – Didn’t their last race
11/13 – 3 or more previous runs already that season
11/13 – Won over this 7f trip previously
11/13 – Won 3 or more times already in their career
10/13 – Officially rated 110 or more
10/13 – Aged 3 or 4 years-old
8/13 – Winning distance was 1 length or more
7/13 – Raced at Newbury before (3 won)
6/13 – Raced at Goodwood last time out
2/13 – Ridden by Jamie Spencer
2/13 – Trained by Richard Hannon
2/13 – Trained by Clive Cox
Breton Rock won the race 12 months ago
The average winning SP in the last 10 runnings is 6/1

VERDICT: A decent race here, but HERE COMES WHEN (Bet here at 11/4 with Skybet) was only beaten 3 ¾ lengths by the classy Solow last time out in a Group One and if running to that level of form again will be hard to beat. Andrew Balding’s charge deserves to win a race of this nature and his last three runs into Group 2 company read 1-1-2.

RIPON HORSE RACING TIPS (C4/ATR)

3.30 – William Hill Great St Wilfrid Stakes (Handicap) Cl2 6f CH4

11/13 – Won over 6f before
11/13 – Filed to win last time out
9/13 – Winning distance of 1 length or less
9/13 – Had 5 or more previous runs already that season
9/13 – Priced at double-figure odds in the betting
8/13 – Carried 8-12 or more in weight
8/13  – Raced at Ripon before (3 won)
8/13 – Unplaced last time out
7/13 – Favourites unplaced
6/13 – Raced at either Goodwood (3) or Newmarket (3) last time out
6/13 – Aged 4 years-old
3/13 – Favourites
2/13 – Trained by David Nicholls
0/13 – Aged 3 years-old
The average winning SP in the last 12 runnings is 12/1
– 4 of the last 7 winners came from stalls 9-11
– Only 4 winning favourites since 1990
–  Since 1986 ALL winners have returned 20/1 or shorter

VERDICT: Tough as always, but the two that we’ll be taking the field on with her are BARNET FAIR (Bet here at 16/1 with Coral) and AL KHAN (Bet here at 16/1 with Skybet). The first-named was a decent second last time out at Goodwood and hails from the Dandy Nicholls yard that have won this race twice in the last 12 years. The horse was seventh in the contest back in 2012 and has a decent draw in 10. Al Khan has run some good races in defeat the last twice and looks set to run another big race here under 5lb claimer Keegan Latham. The horse is drawn next to Barnet Fair in 9, so it will be easy to track their progress through the race – hopefully they will be bang-there in the closing stages.
