2.30 – Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) 5f

E/W Selections:

WIND FIRE @ 16/1 with Ladbrokes

EMIRATES FLYER @ 16/1 with Bet Victor

A 5f dash to start the day and Aiden O’Brien saddles the favourite Coach House who has looked impressive in three starts to date. Still improving and a worthy favourite but he has plenty of unexposed types to deal with. WIND FIRE is the only filly in the race and the pick of jockey Jamie Spencer. She improved for her debut outing (when she finished behind the re-opposing Green Door) and won with a touch in hand at Sandown last time out. Several winners have come out for that race and the second that day Survived ran well when finishing 6th in the Queen Mary Stakes yesterday. She looks likely to carry on improving and makes plenty of appeal on paper, with speed aplenty she is an interesting runner up against the colts.

EMIRATES FLYER was a winner on his only start to date after being well backed beforehand. That was the stables first juvenile winner of the season and you would expect he will be able to come on for that performance. Will need to step up on that but bred to be quick and looks a fair each-way price.

3.05 – Ribblesdale Stakes (Group 2) 1m4f

Selection:

ALIVE ALIVE OH @ 5/2 with Ladbrokes

This filly has gone from strength to strength this season and after a facile victory on her latest start an Oaks tilt was on the horizon. Connections thought better of supplementing her for that race and she comes here fresh with leading claims. When winning that Listed contest last time out she travelled with such ease that she looked a class apart form her rivals and came home to win by 6L. She appeared to enjoy the better ground that day and conditions here should prove no problem to her. The horse he beat convincingly was Aiden O’Brien’s Magical Dream, a Group 3 winner who finished a close 4th behind 1000 Guineas winner Sky Lantern in the Group 1 Moyglare Stakes as a 2 year old. Stays this trip very well and a repeat performance gives her a massive chance.

3.45 – Gold Cup (Group 1) 2m4f

E/W Selections:

SADLER’S ROCK @ 9/1 with William Hill

MODEL PUPIL @ 40/1 with Bet Victor

SADDLER’S ROCK was a close up third in last year’s renewal and unfortunately for him running well without winning has become a bit of a common trait for him. He won the Group 2 Goodwood Cup in August last year but since then has not looked like winning again, albeit he has run well in good races. He stayed on well enough over this trip of 2m4f in the Prix Du Cadran in France when finishing 4th but his finishing effort was not enough to put him in contention. He ought to run a solid race and does not have much to find on last year’s running and he looks a solid each-way chance on this good ground.

A potential improver is MODEL PUPIL, who without making many headlines has been gradually brought along by trainer Charlie Hills. He went close to winning the Chester Vase as a 3 year old and in three starts this season has twice ran respectably in Group 3 company. He gives the impression of being very one paced and it could be that this extreme test of stamina could suit him well. He has plenty to find on official ratings but should carry on improving, and his relentless galloping style could see him run on well late in the race. He is smartly bred, related to plenty of pattern race winners; he is from the same family as the high class filly Midday amongst others. Unexposed and in an open race he could be chanced to sneak a place.

4.25 – Britannia Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 1m

E/W Selections:

CAPE PERON @ 7/1 with Paddy Power

YOU DA ONE @ 40/1 with Bet Victor

A fiercely competitive big field handicap which looks a tricky puzzle to solve. Wentworth went into many notebooks last time out when he was an unlucky loser at Goodwood, getting no sort of run until it was all too late. That effort has not been missed though and his price reflects that and for value we will look elsewhere. Second favourite CAPE PERON has an unexposed profile and the way in which he won his latest race indicates he could prove much better than his current mark. Travelling strongly he strode clear of the field with consummate ease and although he has a 13lb rise to deal with he looks to be a classy animal who could end up in Group races later in his career.

In such a big field there is often a big priced runner which runs into the frame and the consistent YOU DA ONE could be the type to do that. With a valuable Goodwood handicap win already to his name this season, he looks ready for the step up to a mile and could have some more room for manoeuvre off a mark of 88.

5.00 – Tercentenary Stakes (Group 3) 1m2f

E/W Selection:

SHIKARPOUR @ 13/2 with Bet Victor

Did not race as a 2 year old but was successful on his first start this season in impressive fashion. Took the step up in class in his stride to finish 5th in the French Derby on just his second career start and that looks like solid form. Should come on for that experience and looks likely to be finishing strongly given the way he finished his race at Longchamp. He should appreciate the good ground and as always the French raiders are worth noting when they come over for the Royal meeting. Unexposed and solid claims with more improvement almost certain.

5.35 – King George V Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 1m4f

E/W Selection:

ESHTIAAL @ 8/1 with Bet Victor

A tough end to the card with plenty of unexposed horses up against each other. The selection is the Brian Meehan trained ESHTIAAL who has been in good form of late, winning on his last two starts. Looked like he had something in hand on his handicap debut last time out and had previously showed a pleasing attitude to grind out a win at Goodwood. An American bred son of Dynaformer, he is bred to be useful and this ground should suit him well. Trip no problem and should continue to improve.
