Royal Ascot Day 1: Latest Betting Odds and Tips For The Queen Anne Stakes

We are now just a week away from many people’s highlight of the flat racing season, Royal Ascot.

We don’t have Frankel or Black Caviar this year but there are still plenty of superstars on show as the very best of thoroughbreds come together in competition. The opening day promises to be a fantastic day of action for flat fanatics with the action kicking off with the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes.

The race over a mile, which Frankel claimed last year with consummate ease, will more than likely make or break most punters’ day/festival with the well fancied hotpot Animal Kingdom running in the race. Animal Kingdom is not in quite the same bracket as the mighty Frankel but he is a multiple Group 1 winner and with the 2nd favourite currently priced at 9/1 with William Hill (compared to his 10/11 with Sky Bet) it looks to be his race to lose according to the market. Declaration Of War is the 2nd fav but he was very disappointing when finishing 5th in the Lockinge. It seems as though this horse is an all-weather specialist and will probably struggle in this company unless he takes a big step forward. Other than these two, we have two horses that, in my opinion, have great chances in the place only market. These are the two fillies, GIOFRA (16/1 with William Hill) and ELUSIVE KATE (16/1 with Sporting Bet). The latter will be thankful for good ground and the former actually finished ahead of Elusive Kate when these two faced each other last July. I don’t see much else in this race and the betting prices suggest the lack of real quality in this field.

For many people, as noted earlier, this whole day, maybe the meeting, could hinge on Animal Kingdom. I don’t see him getting turned over at a short price and I’d rather be a backer than a layer. But in terms of each-way value, the fillies may be the way to go.
