Royal Ascot Betting Tips – 4.25pm Coronation Stakes

Horse racing betting tips for the 4.25pm Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.

The Coronation Stakes is the feature race on the fourth day of Royal Ascot and is a superb Group 1 race over 1m for fillies.  Sky Lantern claimed this prize last year before going on to greater success and each of the 12 runners here will be aiming to do the same.

Lightning Thunder (4/1 bet365) has run two fantastic races in the 1,000 Guineas and in the Irish equivalent.  This Olly Steven’s runner put in a great performance at the Curragh despite being faced with ground much softer than ideal, and looked great when finishing like a train, almost grinding down the winner at Newmarket.  She sets the obvious form standard however I would be concerned about how quickly she has been turned out.  She has endured two tough races and could well struggle against more lightly raced opposition

My Titania (7/2 Coral) was a leading fancy for the 1,000 Guineas before becoming injured.  John Oxx’s filly performed well during her 2 year-old season,  finishing six lengths ahead of Oaks runner-up Tarfasha on her last run.  Despite that impressive piece of form that result came in September and she could well suffer for a lack of a race-run.  Fitness is key and others in the field could take advantage.

RIZEENA (7/1 William Hill) ran a decent race at Newmarket on her reappearance, finishing four and a half lengths behind the winner in the 1,000 Guineas.  She had an excellent juvenile season, winning a Group 1 at the Curragh before finishing second to Chriselliam – a filly who then romped home at the Breeders Cup. She looked to badly need her run in the Guineas as she run very flat in the final two furlongs yet stayed on well.  She has Royal Ascot winning form on fast ground so conditions should be ideal and, with the benefit of a run, she could prove hard to beat.

Kiyoshi (12/1 Coral) was all fancied for the Newmarket Classic before forced out with injury.  She had a decent 2 year-old campaign that included romping home in the Albany Stakes at this meeting last year.  Nonetheless, she was beaten by Rizeena last year and I just cant envisage her turning the form around, especially on her first start of the season.

Of the others, Sandiva (18/1 bet365) won her seasonal debut at Newmarket in April and stayed on well that day.  Frankie Dettori takes the ride and he has an excellent record riding at Royal Ascot.  She’s very honest and should enter the placings.  Lucky Kristale (20/1 Ladbrokes) is a previous winner on very fast ground at York last season in the Lowther Stakes.  Despite running poorly in the 1,000 Guineas if she rediscovers her York form, she could run very well.

This year’s renewal of the Coronation Stakes looks an extremely competitive contest.  RIZEENA ran a good race in the 1,000 Guineas despite running flat with two furlongs out and should have come on plenty.  She’s a superb filly with solid form and looks good value at the early prices.
