Horse racing betting tips for the 3.45pm Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over 1m4f is one of the many highlights on the final day of Royal Ascot and sees 10 runners line-up.  Won by the likes of Harbinger, Await The Dawn and Sea Moon; this contest regularly throws up a classy horse who will be looking to make the step-up to Group 1 class later in the season.

On official ratings the field is heading by both Dandino (9/1 SkyBet) and Hillstar (9/2 SkyBet).  The former is a seven year-old warrior who represents Marco Botti.  He has travelled the globe running in some of the best Group 1 contests in Australia and Hong Kong.  A course and distance winner in the King George V Stakes in 2010, he finished a close runner-up to the ill fated Thomas Chippendale in last year’s race and must be respected.  The latter represents Sir Michael Stoute, a trainer with a fantastic record in this contest (since 2006 he has saddled the winner on four occasions).  Hillstar is another C&D winner claiming the King George VII stakes last year after coming late with a sweeping run to beat the smart Battle Of Marengo.  He is sure to have his supporters but he is a little more inclined to finish in second spot than getting his head in front.

Stoute is doubly represented in the race and potentially his main hope is TELESCOPE (11/4 Betfred).  This horse was once a Derby favourite before suffering an injury and missing the Epsom Classic.  He has performed admirably throughout his career, having never finished out of the first two places on seven runs.  The highlight of his racing career came at York over today’s trip on today’s ground in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes last season.  Both starts this season have yet to bring about a victory but he was faced with soft ground and that is clearly not to his liking.  He finished second to Noble Mission on both occasions and with that horse going on to Group 1 success the form has taken a considerable boost.  This horse has long had a considerable reputation and today could well be the day that reputation is finally justified.

This field is filled with yet more course and distance winners.  Cambourne (14/1 Coral) and Ektihaam (12/1 bet365) are two such runners and of the two, the latter looks to have strong claims.  A C&D winner in the Buckhounds Stakes at Ascot in May of last year beating Thomas Chippendale impressively by six lengths.  He then slipped up rounding the home bend in last year’s renewal of the Hardwicke before finishing last of eight in the King George VI Stakes.  His reappearance at Chester this season should have put him spot on and, with conditions very much in his favour and a solid course record, his challenge must be feared.

Of the others, Eye Of The Storm (8/1 Coral) represents Ballydoyle, has performed well in Listed company and will be hoping to step up to this level but this trip looks to be a minimum.  Pether’s Moon (10/1 bet365) ran a creditable second at Ascot over 1m4f some 42 days ago on good to soft ground and conditions should be much more in his favour today.

A hugely competitive affair with any number of the runners having strong claims for success.  A considerable number of this field have great course and distance form providing them with noteworthy experience.  However, one who is yet to face the demands of Ascot is TELESCOPE, a horse who has a huge reputation.  Despite his inexperience of the track, he looks to be a strong selection with his favoured conditions and the record of his trainer in the race.  This horse has emptied my pockets of a number of occasions now and although my confidence is starting to wane, conditions are ideal and you really have to feel that if this horse is going to live-up to the hype then this contest will offer the perfect opportunity.
