Newcastle United v Aston Villa Betting Tips and Predictions

Paul Lambert's Aston Villa travel up north to face Alan Pardew's Newcastle United this Sunday and we have free football betting tips.

On the surface this should not be a game to set the heart racing. Newcastle have lost the last three heavily. Aston Villa have also not won in three either. Although they did draw last time out against Cardiff.

The sub-plots around this game are numerous and make this game worth watching.

Aston Villa are far from safe and could still be dragged into the relegation dogfight. The Villains also have the peculiar record of being a much better team away from home than at home. So on the face of it the trip to St James' park should suit them. However, St James' Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Aston Villa in the past. They have not won there since April 2005. Can they dispel their St James' Park voodoo?

Newcastle are also replete with intrigue as they continue their reputation for being a soap opera club. They sold one of their best players Yohan Cabaye and failed to bring in a direct replacement. The one loan signing they brought in, De Jong, looks painfully off the pace. Joe Kinnear meanwhile has departed the club after judging himself on the signings he made or more pertinently didn't make.

To add to these woes the club has banned the Sunday Express and strongly denied rumours that Alan Pardew's job is at risk.

Considering all this the bookies don't see a strong favourite. Newcastle are slight favourites with odds of a black and white triumph being priced by bet365 at 21/20. Whilst the same provider has an Aston Villa win at 5/2 and a draw at 12/5.

Neither of these odds are especially tempting. Considering the poor performances of both teams it seems very possible that this will be a goalless draw. A 0-0 scoreline is priced at 10/1 with Boylesports.

Despite saying this I do think Newcastle will win. After being beaten three times some professional pride will stir a performance from them. Against a poor Villa side they couldn't ask for a better match to come back to form in.

Added to this Newcastle are coming back to full strength. Tiote is likely to be fit again and will add steel to the Geordie midfield. More importantly, Loic Remy is back from suspension and no longer has the threat of a rape conviction hanging over him.

Much has been made of the lose of Cabaye but I reckon Remy was a bigger loss. If you look at the stats for the last four games Sissoko and Ben Arfa have created 29 chances between them. Newcastle haven't scored in this time because they have been playing the likes of  Shola Ameobi up front with Remy back in the side Newcastle will score again. Remy is 8/5 to score anytime with bet victor.
