The defending Superbowl champions welcome the New York Jets into town on Sunday for this week 12 showdown between two teams that have had up and down years to this point. The Jets have played absolutely mind-blowing defence all season long ranking top in the league in terms of rushing yards allowed per game with a paltry 73.2.

The defensive line has played so well it has now earned the nickname; “Sons of Anarchy”. The Jets have had a strange year alternating wins and losses on a weekly basis, whilst also picking up some huge wins along the way such as the week 5 Monday Night Football win in Atlanta, and home wins over powerhouses New England and New Orleans. The inconsistency is large borne from playing a rookie at quarterback but Geno Smith has shown great poise in crunch time and looks very much answer at quarterback for the Jets moving forward. This weekend will be Ed Reeds second game of the season against his old team after facing them with the Houston Texas earlier this season. Reed made his debut for the Jets during last Sundays disappointing 37-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

In years passed, the Baltimore Ravens had the most feared defence in the league anchored by linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed. Their departures in the offseason to retirements and Houston respectively left the Ravens defence young and without the same edge it previously had with the Lewis anchoring it from the middle. The Ravens lost many key cogs from last years Superbowl team which have not been adequately filled leaving a defence that has not been able to win games on its own when required. The Ravens come into week 12 with a very disappointing 4-6 record which leaves them dead last in the NFC North division and their chances of making the playoffs very slim. Their defence lies at the middle of the pack in terms of back run and pass defence ranking 11th and 13th respectively in the league. Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce have struggled to deliver in the run game this year with the team as a whole averaging only 83.2 yards per game which is 27th in the NFL. Joe Flacco has continued to produce at quarterback after his big contract extension in the offseason, but his receiving options have not been adequately replenished after the departure of Anquan Boldin to the 49ers. Torrey Smith has performed admirably as the number one receiving option, but after him there is a steep drop in wide out production. Jacoby Jones has failed to step up as a number two receiver this year totalling only 160 receiving yards all year to this point which just isn't good enough for a team that had high hopes for him coming into the season despite him arriving at training camp out of shape.

I see the Jets continuing their trend of following a loss with a win this season for my NFL betting tip, with a victory on the road in Baltimore. It won’t be an easy game for them but if the front 3 on the defensive line can put pressure on Joe Flacco and force some turnovers to put the offence in good field position then Geno Smith and his offence should be able to pull out a win. For the Ravens though, they still have a borderline elite quarterback who can turn a game at the drop of a hat so the Jets defensive backs will need to make sure they cover the inevitable deep ball that is sure to come out of Flacco’s hands at least once of Sunday.
