2.20 Kempton

We start at Kempton with the Group 3 September Stakes over 1m4f.  Both Dandino and Prince Bishop have won this race in the past but preference is for CAT O’MOUNTAIN (11/4 Ladbrokes).  Despite finishing behind Prince Bishop in round three of the Al Maktoum Challenge, the Street Cry gelding went on to finish third in the Dubai World Cup, turning that form around.  This horse loves Kempton and is four from four at this venue so should put in another solid effort.

2.40 Haydock

Heading north to Haydock, the next leg of the Lucky 15 bet comes in the  Superior Mile where PENITENT (14/1 bet365) could strike at decent odds.  He isn’t getting any younger but this is a relatively weak race and could represent another good chance to get in front again.  He won over 7f here in May against arguably better opposition and any give in the ground will be in his favour.  Short Squeeze and Captain Cat have been progressive to date and will be ones to keep an eye on.

3.15 Haydock

The Old Borough Cup is regularly a very interesting and competitive race and that seems the case this year.  QUEST FOR MORE (10/1 Coral) seems well weighted and the jockey booking of Pat Smullen also makes him a leading fancy.  He was unlucky to go down at York last time out with the winner having previously finished close to the Ebor winner Mutual Regard at the Curragh.  Considering that line of form, and the relatively little weight he has to carry here, and he should run a massive race and hold off the likes of Havana Cooler, Glenard and Hassle.

3.50 Haydock

Finally we have the Group 1 Sprint Cup over 6f.  It is interesting to see leading fancy Sole Power stepped back up in trip but it must be noted that he has won 0/8 over 6f and, because of that fact, cannot be backed.  The same goes for the 2 Qatar runners Pearl Secret and Hot Streak who would prefer 5f.  Maarek and Astaire both enjoy 6f and should go close at big prices but I’m taking a chance on GORDON LORD BYRON (5/1 bet365) returning to his best form.  The Byron gelding won this contest pretty comfortably last season, showed a return to form last time out at the Curragh, and is expected to go close here.
