Liverpool v Blackburn Predictions and Betting Tips

Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers betting tips for Sunday’s FA Cup with a betting preview and predictions.

A very much in form Liverpool side welcome an inconsistent Blackburn Rovers to Anfield as both sides battle it out to secure a place in the Semi-finals of the FA Cup. Brendan Rodgers knows that victory will take him tantalisingly close to claiming a first piece of silverware with his Liverpool team.  With such good domestic form, surely Liverpool will secure a safe passage to the Semi-Finals.

After being dumped out of the Europa League on penalties to Besiktas, Brendan Rodgers knows that the FA Cup is Liverpool’s only chance of silverware this season and he will be desperate for victory. Blackburn have claimed the scalps of Premiership duo Swansea and Stoke in their FA Cup run and Liverpool will have to be on their guard to ensure victory in this one. Blackburn’s triumphs over the two top flight teams both came at Ewood Park and playing away at Anfield will be an altogether different task without the support of their loyal fans to spur them on.

In the League, Blackburn are firmly marooned in mid table. Their form is erratic and they just cannot string a run of wins together, failing to record back to back victories since November. Their mid-table status makes their wins over Premiership opponents in the cup all the more difficult to fathom. It seems that with nothing much to play for in the league, with relegation not on the cards and a promotion push very unlikely, the players have saved their best for the cup matches. This game could therefore prove a much harder task for Liverpool than it would appear on paper.

Liverpool’s form has picked up at a crucial time and if they can maintain it, they will surely be hoping to secure a Champions League spot come the end of the season. They are undefeated domestically since December and with Daniel Sturridge returning to full fitness and finding scoring form, things are on the way up for the Anfield side. They have 5 wins from 6 in the league and are really starting to gel as a unit for the first time since the summer departure of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. Rodgers has found a formation which suits the players as well as his style of play; either playing Sterling or Sturridge as the striker along with a 3 man central defence and wing backs. I also don’t think Rodgers will be too annoyed that his team have exited the Europa league as this will give them a lot more time to spend concentrating on gaining a Champions League position as well as trying to win the FA Cup.  They will have 4 full days to prepare for this match, the same amount of time as Blackburn have and therefore there will be no advantage either way in terms of fatigue and fitness.

Blackburn’s away form is particularly poor, notching just 3 wins from 15 and averaging exactly 1 goal per game. Compared with Liverpool’s home form of 8 wins from 15 with 24 goals scored; this match should be an open and shut case. I am not inclined to think that Liverpool will slip up. Yes, admittedly they succumbed to the pressure in the penalty shootout defeat to Besiktas, but Blackburn are a much poorer team, and this match is at Anfield, not in an extremely hostile Turkish stadium. Therefore, for my first football-betting tip, I am predicting a Liverpool win to nil. The best odds can be found with Betway at 21/20.

Jordan Henderson’s form has been magnificent of late and he is beginning to look like a ready-made replacement for Stevey G. He has 2 goals from his last 2 matches and I would not bet against him notching another against Blackburn. Both his goals were Gerrard-esque rockets from outside the box and showed Henderson’s fantastic technique. My second football betting tip is for Henderson to make it 3 out of 3 and be an anytime goalscorer. Odds of 9/2 can be found with PaddyPower.

In all of Liverpool’s wins in the FA Cup this season they have scored exactly 2 goals. Furthermore, in 9 out of their last 20 Premiership home games they have also scored exactly 2 goals. The Anfield side’s last game was a comfortable 2-0 victory over Burnley at home and I can see them pulling off another routine win in their FA Cup tie. Therefore for my third and final football-betting tip, I predict that Liverpool will win 2-0. Odds of 11/2 can be found with 888sport.
