La Liga Betting Tips for Sunday 18 August fixtures

Spanish football takes centre stage on Sunday evening and there are four fixtures from round one of La Liga to get stuck into. My analysis and best bets are below, which I am recommending as single bets. If you prefer to combine them in an accumulator it pays 19/1 with BetVictor.

Barcelona v Levante (KO 18:00 BST)

With Barcelona having won all eight of  their previous top-flight matches against Levante at the Nou Camp, this looks a banker home win. However you won't get rich backing 1/10 shots, and so I've looked to the goals markets for a value bet. Over 3.5 goals is tempting although a barrow-load of goals are not necessarily guaranteed with last season's corresponding fixture finishing 1-0. That said the Catalans have found the net at least twice in 16 of their last 17 home league matches, and it would be no surprise to see a couple of goals before half-time.

Real Madrid v Real Betis (KO 20:00 BST)

Betis travel to the Bernabeu minus star-man Rubén Castro who is injured, and are likely be up against in Carlo Ancelotti's first home match in charge at Real Madrid. The hosts have won their last four encounters with Real Betis on home soil, scoring a total of 15 goals, whilst Betis have failed to win nine of their last ten away matches in La Liga. With all the statistics indicating a comfortable home win, my attention again turns to the goals markets for a bet. Four of the last five meetings between these have gone over 3.5 goals and as you would expect the price is odds-on, although not quite skinny enough not to have a bet.

Best Bet: Over 3.5 Goals – 8/11 with Sky Bet

Osasuna v Granada (KO 20:00 BST)

Osasuna struggled badly in front of goal all last season with their home tally of just 15 goals their worst-ever in a season. To compound matters they no longer have striker Kike Sola in their ranks since he departed for Athletic Bilbao. In contrast Granada look like a side on the up with a few shrewd summer signings added to bolster the squad, including striker Riki who scored 13 goals for Deportivo last campaign. Granada won both their league encounters against Osasuna last season and they are the value bet to do so again.

Sevilla v Atletico Madrid

Both sides get their 2013/14 campaign minus some big names from last season. Sevilla parted company with Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas who both left for Manchester City, whilst Atletico no longer have star-striker Falcao who signed for Monaco. Diego Simeone had a somewhat cautious approach on the road last season and it will be interesting to see if he again employs similar tactics in this campaign. If he does then this could be a tight, low-scoring affair, perhaps settled by a single goal. Under 1.5 Goals is a tempting bet but under 2.5 looks safer.
