Horse racing betting tips for the best bets from Thursday’s racing action at Newbury.

Newbury hosts an eight race card on Thursday with the fillies taking centre-stage. Alongside a competitive fillies’ Listed contest there are a pair of interesting fillies’ maidens and with that in mind we’ve picked out best bets from the card.

The 2:20pm is a fillies’ maiden over 1m2f and Roger Varian has an interesting type in ELSHAADIN (6/1 SkyBet). This filly cost a shade over half a million guineas and didn’t run too badly when finishing fifth on debut. The grey filly will clearly enjoy the step up in trip with 1m2f looking like her optimum trip on breeding. She has a very interesting entry in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Ascot and could show her class here before taking up that engagement. By Jupiter has some good form but will need to step-up on what she has shown so far and, despite a good debut, this trip may not suit Hoop Of Colour as much as 1m did. A couple others have good pedigrees but none more so than Elshaadin and she should put in a bold show.

Potentially, there could be another star in the following maiden which is another one for the fillies over the same trip. Last year John Gosden sent out Cushion to win and for this year’s renewal he saddles two, with the pick on pedigree – STELLA BELLISSIMA (6/4 SkyBet). By Sea The Stars (multiple Group 1 winner), out of a Group1 placed filly, this horse has the sort of breeding that screams class and is a very interesting prospect. The danger horse looks to be Carnevale who has performed well in two starts so far and is out of a Listed winner. She could well offer the greatest resistance and should definitely improve but Stella Bellissima should provide John Gosden with back-to-back wins in this race.

The feature race of the day is the fillies Listed race again over 1m2f. Once again, Gosden has a decent type in EASTERN BELLE (3/1 Betfred). This filly has shown a greater degree of class from what she has shown so far compared to her rivals and that superior form could well make all the difference. Her trainer won this contest two years ago with the Irish Oaks winner Great Heavens and there isn’t much in the way of opposition to stop him repeating the feat here with Eastern Belle. Both Jordan Princess and Uchenna will need huge runs to overturn the form and, based on that, the main dangers look likely to be Queen Of Ice and Kallisha.
