Here are our golf betting tips the the Turkish Airlines Open, starting this Thursday and being played over the Montgomerie Maxx Royal course, Antalya, Turkey. 78 players will battle it out over the 4 days, led by World number 1 Tiger Woods who is favourite for the event at 9/2.

A new event & venue which is always a challenge to us tipsters, we have no direct course form to go on for the majority of the field, in this situation I tend to look for courses of a similar length and style (links, stadium, exposed, tree-lined, etc).

This course is relatively short for a Par 72, measuring just 7,100 yards it looks likely to provide the pro’s with plenty of birdie opportunities, especially when you consider the number reachable Par 4’s and Par 5’s. Eight lakes and significant bunkering provide the course defences; but with soft and relatively benign conditions expected (after heavy showers Weds/Thurs) for the majority of the tournament, I expect a winning score of -20 or better.

I have steered away from Woods and Rose at the head of the market (although both clearly have strong chances here), in the hope that others may provide better value when considering all the factors.

Schwartzel won last time out, albeit on the One Asia tour, but has had an excellent ball striking season with just his putting stopping him from adding to his single title of the season- The Alfred Dunhill Championship, back last December. In his recent victory in China, Charl finished with rounds of 68-68 and when he hits his stride he can shoot incredible numbers (he won the Alfred Dunhill Championship by 12 shots in December), that sort of scoring will be required this week and he performs at this time of the season, a place minimum seems likely.

In his last 6 events he has 4 Top ten finishes, this includes runner up sports in the Wales Open and more importantly in the Alfred Dunhill Links championship where, like this event, low scoring is a factor; Uihlein finished Tied 1st at -23 that week, losing to David Howell in a playoff (Uihlein has already won this season though, in the Portugal Masters). Finished 5^th just two weeks ago in the BMW Masters where many thought he would lack the experience, not a piece of it, a player not easily perturbed, I expect him to be at the sharp end on a course which should reward his aggressive style.

The recent winner of the Omega European Masters (in a playoff with Craig Lee, after finishing on -20) has also amassed 7 other top 10’s in a hugely impressive season for the Danish veteran.
