Golf Betting Tips & Preview- Mobile Bay LPGA Classic 2013

Stanford.jpg

This is the fifth staging of the Mobile Bay Championship from Alabama, World No 2 Stacy Lewis heads the field defending her title which she earned last year, compiling a -17 total to beat Lexi Thompson by 1 shot.

The Event

The Crossings course in Mobile, Alabama is part if the Robert Trent Jones golf trail and measures 6,521 yards playing to a par of 72.  The course is quite undulating and tree lined so unsurprisingly the key components to win here appear to be accuracy and ball striking, although it should be noted that some longer hitters such as Brittany Lincicome and Lexi Thompson have good records here.  My selections here have been based on current form and consistent ball striking rather than just accuracy alone, and as you will see I have taken a bit of a punt with my 250/1 shot!

Main Picks

Angela Stanford  – 20/1 EW

Winner here in 08 and two other top 10’s here, this is clearly a venue that agrees with Stanford, she is just coming off the back of an excellent tied 5th at the Kingsmill where she had just 5 bogeys across all four rounds.  32nd in driving accuracy, 40th in GIR and is putting really well- currently 17th in putts per GIR – this all suggests a strong week for a 5 time winner on the LPGA tour, who is in fine form returning to a favoured venue.

Jessica Korda – 33/1 EW

Injured her wrist and did not play at the Kingsmill, but Korda has been in fine form this year and is desperate to land her place in the US Solhiem cup team, she intends to play the next 8 events to ensure qualification.  Modest form on this course in the past (finishing 52nd and 19th in 2012 and 2011) but has really found consistency this year with 3 Top 10’s and zero missed cuts this season, a talent who you would think will win her second LPGA title sooner rather than later.  Not as accurate as some of my other selections but makes a large number of birdies, needs to keep the bogey’s off the card.

Karine Icher – 33/1 EW

Icher finished 3rd here last year when she scored better than even eventual winner Lewis in over rounds 2-4, just an opening level Par 72 let her down, having an impressive run of form of late finishing top 20 in her last 3 events straight.  Looks to be a good fit for the course, currently ranked- 38th in driving accuracy, 10th in GIR and 43rd in putts per GIR – has 27 Top 10’s on the LPGA but zero wins – is this the week?

Alex Marina – 250/1 EW

Has played just 10 events on the LPGA feeder tour over 2012 and 2013 (the Symetra Tour) and yet already has 4 Top 10’s at that level, ranked 8th in GIR and scoring average on the Symetra tour this year to date.  Despite her relatively diminutive 5’3 frame she moves the ball decent distance from the tee ranking 40th in driving distance.  A course that will reward solid play from tee to green should suit Marina and a hot putting week may just score us a place.
